Due to rapid growth and expansion, an exciting opportunity has arisen within the Technical Engineering department, for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join the team. The Principal Mechanical Engineer will report to the Technical Director and will have the following key responsibilities:
Oversee all technical engineering design procedures and resources.
Ensure that all technical engineering work is completed to all relevant internal and external procedures & processes.
Identify and implementing opportunities for improvement and innovation in the mechanical engineering processes and practices.
Review and approve the mechanical engineering work of engineers and subcontractors.
Ensure, in accordance with Company working practices, to conduct activities in accordance with the Enshore HSEQS requirements and to meet all legal obligations.
The Principal Mechanical Engineer is expected to improve the work processes and be a technical governance for the discipline. The scope will include studies and tenders as well as live projects.
Key Tasks:
Lead the conceptual and detailed design of mechanical systems and components for offshore projects including trenching asset and vessel equipment.
Perform calculations, simulations, and testing to verify the functionality, performance, and reliability of the mechanical design.
Create technical specifications, datasheets, drawings, and reports.
Collaborate with other engineers, designers, contractors, and clients to ensure the quality and timely delivery of the mechanical engineering deliverables.
Review and approve the mechanical engineering work of junior engineers and subcontractors.
Provide technical support and troubleshooting for the installation, commissioning, and operation of the mechanical systems and components.
Identify and implement opportunities for improvement and innovation in the mechanical engineering processes and practices.
Manage the technical engineering department workload and resources planning.
Key Behaviours:
Strong mechanical engineering background.
Good understanding of hydraulic systems and basic hydraulic design.
Effective communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in 3D CAD software, such as SolidWorks and Inventor, and in 2D CAD software such as AutoCAD.
Knowledge of relevant codes and standards, such as API, ASME, ISO, and DNV.
Experience in mechanical analysis, such as stress, fatigue, vibration, and thermal.
Understanding of Technical Engineering projects, budgets, and schedules.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work under pressure of tight timeframes.
Ability to work with own initiative and flexibly, with minimum supervision, as a solution provider.
Ability to propose solutions and creative problem-solving methods.
Ability to organize and prioritize own work and be responsible for discrete work packages ongoing simultaneously.
