Our approach to integrated design produces award winning results that have won international recognition and named CIHT’s Employer of the Year in 2021.Due to continued expansion of the business, we are now looking for a Principal Highways Engineer to join our dynamic highways team. Ideally, we are looking for a professionally accredited [IEng or CEng] and/or Chartered Engineer.This a full time, permanent position based in our Slough office.The successful candidate will report to the
Associate/Associate
Director of Highways and will be responsible for delivering designs and assessment on a variety of projects, liaising with clients, and
mentoring/developing
junior engineers.Role & Responsibilities:• Development and delivery of concept, preliminary & detailed highway designs• Preparation of calculations, written reports and checking of drawings• Providing technical guidance and leadership to junior colleagues.• Development of project task budgets and programmes and delivering targets• Attending client meetings and liaising with clients and other stakeholders• Planning and undertaking of site visits, inspections and investigations as required.• Taking an active role in the implementation of CDM duties on projects• Communicate effectively and professionally with the design team, clients, and contractors.Personal Attributes• Experience of successful operational delivery to Local Authority and private clients.• Experience of project management with a good understanding of commercial aspects of projects.• Proactive, self-motivated, and good with problem solving.• Inspirational team leader and motivator.• Excellent Financial Acumen in both project cost control and works estimates.• Ability to deliver on time whilst handling multiple projects/tasks.• Ability to communicate at all levels with excellent
oral/written/numeracy
skills.• Good computer literacy (including experience of CAD, 3D modelling and MS Project).• Self-motivated with good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills• Possess strong analytical skills and experienced in the application and use of highways design software.What we are looking for• At least 10 years’ experience working in a design team environment.• Degree within an engineering based subject or equivalent.• Master’s degree in civil engineering and working towards Professional Qualification• Chartered Engineer and Member of a relevant professional institution [i.e. ICE or CIHT].• Strong background in application of DMRB design standards• Experience in line managing and providing technical oversight for delivery teams.• Knowledge and experience of business development, including fee estimation and proposal preparation.• Understanding and experience of design using 2D CAD and Civils 3D• Knowledge and experience of financial management.• Experience managing multiple projects both technically and financially.• Strong commercial and contractual understanding.• Understand Health & Safety requirements and CDM duties.• Salary of £44,000 - £50,000 per annum DOE• Continuous training and development• Yearly Professional Membership of your choice• Enhanced Maternity and Paternity Package NB subject to eligibility criteria.• Staff benefits designed to suit your lifestyle, from discounts on high street and online shopping to travel, socialising and wellbeing.If this sounds like the job for you, please apply....New starters will be subject to clearance through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
