Principal Fire and Explosion Safety Engineer

Job Role:
As a Principal Fire and Explosion Safety Engineer, you will be actively involved with the Fire & Explosion Safety team in support of the Fire & Explosion Engineering Manager. You will be at the heart of the development of fire & explosion safety solutions for current and future submarine design programmes, as well as the design of new, modern buildings in our site expansion programme. This role offers flexibility in working hours and location of work with the opportunity to achieve a suitable balance between working on our Barrow-In-Furness site and home working.
The Control Damage Hazards (CDH) team is a safety engineering capability sitting within the Specialist Engineering and Technology Group. The CDH team's goal is to ensure that our products and production facilities are as safe as possible from the risk posed by major hazards such as fires and explosion (DSEAR). You will be primarily focused on DSEAR compliance activities and will have the opportunity to work with a wide range of stakeholders across the submarine projects as well as site redevelopment projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Taking a lead role across Explosion Safety Engineering risk assessments and compliance activities for new and existing submarine manufacturing facilities
Mentoring and developing engineers within the team
Monitoring, recording and reporting against key performance indicators for Explosion Safety through a variety of key stakeholder groups
Developing, producing and maintaining Explosion Safety process documentation and management strategies
Producing and reviewing explosion strategies and risk assessments
Reviewing and supporting commissioning strategies for explosion safety systems
Producing proposals for packages of work
Reviewing of engineering documentation (relevant to Explosion Safety)
Providing support to regulatory inspections
Chairing explosion safety workshops and working groups.
Key Attributes:
Experience of working in an explosion safety engineering environment and applying various methods of hazard analysis
COMAH (Safety Case support) experience
Site Asset Protection experience
Fire Safety Engineering experience
DSEAR risk assessment production including hazard identification and analysis (preferably from a high hazard industry)
A thorough understanding of Hazardous Area Classification (HAC)
Proven track record in implementing business processes to achieve strategic objectives.
Passion for safety and open to developing new skills and undertaking further training in explosion risk management.
Qualifications:
Degree qualified in STEM discipline (or Fire & Explosion Safety Engineering / Risk Management) (Essential)
Chartered Engineer (preferred)
