Ultra Precision Control Systems (PCS) are looking for a Principal Engineer to join the Engineering Function. In this role you will lead, develop and support Safety Design in order that both project and statutory requirements are met and to improve the effectiveness of the safety design function within the company. The Ultra PCS Engineering function manages a portfolio of specialist capabilities, generating highly differentiated solutions and products by applying electronic, mechanical, and software technologies in demanding and critical environments to meet customer needs.Wherever possible, we will consider a variety of working options to suit your lifestyle, whether that be hybrid home/office working, flexible working and part or full time employment. We welcome the challenge to work in new ways and have trust in you when getting the job done because we recognise, our business is our people.Key Responsibilities:To be a technical arbiter within the Safety Design Group Ensure timely delivery to customers Contributes towards engineering company strategyTo support the Technology Director as requiredTo lead and manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers to meet the project objectives and to ensure the necessary tools and equipment are available at the right timeTo support bids with projects as requiredTo competently resolve technical problems associated with assigned productsEnsure the manufacturing costs for new products are defined and manage the engineering activity to ensure targets are metResponsible for assisting project leaders to deliver, attending project review meetings as requiredEnsure adequate constructive challenge is presented in design reviews to identify and mitigate any key issuesTo review and update engineering procedures regularly to ensure they remain up to date and compliantBuild and maintain excellent internal and external customer relationshipsPrepare reports for internal and external usePrepare and deliver presentations as requiredEnsure adherence to company policies and procedures to ensure accreditation requirements are consistently metBe prepared to travel to support current and future products on customers sites around the world General Experience: Extensive in depth experience of safety and reliability in aerospaceAbility to successfully lead and manage small/medium size teamAbility to performance manageTechnically competent to assess and manage technical risk in their area and honestly presenting the detail and the wider impactFamiliar with appropriate standards within areaSound analytical and problem solving skills by applying practical and economic solutions to any problems encounteredAble to communicate succinctly and accurately on technical issues and schemes with internal and external customers and the teamGood communication skills both verbally and in writingProactively able to manage own work and the work of others to in order to achieve objectives Specific Experience: Conversant with aerospace safety design and assessment (FMEA FTA etc.)Competent with relevant CAD tools usageConversant with safety and certification requirements for aerospaceConversant with the responsibilities of acting as a Compliance Verification EngineerAn enthusiastic participant with other skill groups within projectsConversant with SAE ARP4761#####4 etc.Conversant with DO160, DO178, DO254Conversant with MIL HDBK 217 reliability calculations and alternativesConversant with the manufacturing techniques used for aerospace electronicsAble and willing to participate and organise product investigations resulting from aircraft incidents Desirable Experience: Exposure and experience with some of the following is required:Familiarity with aerospace materialsFamiliarity with configuration and part controlFamiliarity with aspects of PCB designFamiliarity with aspects of EMC techniquesFamiliarity with reliability and reliability predictionFamiliarity with system design practice Security Clearance: Due to the nature of the work carried out at Ultra, all applicants must be eligible for SC Clearance.Here at Ultra we are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity and inclusivity.
