Salary:
Up to £68,000 (depending on skills and experience)
What you'll be doing:
Lead general systems engineering activities across the engineering lifecycle
Perform and manage the reviews of work produced by less experienced personnel, and sanction outcome
Act as the senior point of contact with customers and/or suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters, to resolve relatively complex problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives
Provide help and direction to less experienced team members to support both their effective working and their development
Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority
Maintaining a level of SQEP for the role through personal and professional development
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
High level of understanding of the engineering lifecycle
High level of understanding of systems engineering methodologies and practices
Experience leading systems engineering activities across the engineering lifecycle
Desirable:
Experience within Naval Ships/Combat Systems
Software, Hardware or Systems engineering background
Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects as well as specific (either academic or professional) qualifications and become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution. Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve the relevant accreditation. Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered.

The Meteorology and Oceanography (METOC) Team:
As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will be required to lead general systems engineering activities, which may include requirements development and management, modelling and simulation, design activities, integration, and verification and validation. The role will provide you the opportunity to play a pivotal role in the delivery of the METOC system to the Type 26 Batch 2 and Hunter (Australia) programmes, based from the Dorchester office.
The Meteorology and Oceanography (METOC) System manages the manual input, and automatic collection and measurement of environmental parameters from environmental sensors.
