Kirklees Council, Street lighting teamAre you an experienced engineer looking for an opportunity to improve the lives of the local people of Huddersfield? We are looking for a Principal Engineer to join our team in the Street lighting team.As part of this opportunity, you will be involved with managing, maintaining and upgrading the asset and delivering a significant capital LED programme. You will also be
providing a street lighting design and delivery service for developers/council schemes and a good quality/high performance service to our community. We are looking for a Principal Engineerwho already has:A full and valid driving licence, and a willingness to undertake and pass a Kirklees Council driving assessment, or ability to use public transport, which ever method is most appropriate and cost effective.High level of communication skills both written and verbal.As Principal Engineer, your key responsibilities and dutieswill consist of:Leading and managing the team to deliver the street lighting service including managing budgets and resources. Leading the preparation of street lighting and electrical design.Undertaking the relevant duty holder’s role under the Construction Regulations 2015, in particular, Designer / Principal Designer.Preparing estimates, technical reports, feasibility, studies, design specification and contact documents, and carry out Project management to include programmingand cost monitoring. Preparing and producingenvironmental Impact awareness reports, economic assessment and business cases. Contributing to compliance with the Quality Management Systems including site specific audits.Managing and delivering the LED capital investment programme andmonitoring and reporting on the associated Salix funding grant.Working on a daily basis with Councillors, MP’s and other stakeholders ensuring a promptand comprehensive response. Engaging with clients, external partners, the councils internal construction team, Northern Power Grid and sub-contractors to provide and ensure a high quality service and performance. Managing the day to day street lighting inventory ensuring timely and accurate updates ofthe inventoryso asto reflect energy savings and reduction of the carbon footprint. Managing and monitoring the street lighting energy budget. Being responsible for the wellbeing of yourself and others.At Kirklees Council, we want to support your professional development to give you the right skills, confidence, and support to really achieve your potential.
