The Opportunity: Are you our next Principal Mechanical Engineer. We are looking for someone who can help us redefine what's possible for our Engineering team. They protect, maintain, and repair our infrastructure. From the electricity that powers this place. Giant plant rooms that heat and cool the airport. To the specialist equipment on the airfield too! What's the role? It is imperative for safe operations at Gatwick Airport that the engineering infrastructure is optimally designed, constructed, operated and maintained. The Principal Engineer has the Authority for all systems falling under their engineering discipline for the whole of Gatwick Airport and will provide professional competence, technical expertise and leadership on all discipline Engineering matters. What you'll be doing
Provide technical guidance and expertise to all GAL departments in the design, construction, operation and maintenance of engineering systems and infrastructure. Own the relevant technical and engineering policies & standards, reference specifications and reference drawings. Ensure delivery of the technical briefing process, translating client needs into appropriate technical design requirements. Sign-off all discipline designs via the design review and Design Council process. Operate as the Responsible Engineer for any activities regarding Engineering systems and Permits to Work. Balance the need to design fit for purpose infrastructure assets whilst maximising the best whole life cycle benefits. Complete contract tender evaluations and supplier 'due diligence' as required to support Procurement workstreams. Conduct accident/incident investigations and act as expert witness and independent competent person as required.
Do you have what we're looking for?
Relevant Engineering/Science qualification to degree level (upper second class minimum). Experience in the successful participation, planning and implementation of major capital projects. The individual must be able to understand and work with technical professionals, design consultants, regulating bodies and on-site contractors as appropriate. Experience of providing and monitoring large scale operational maintenance regimes and delivering continuous improvement initiatives. In-depth knowledge of current discipline specific Statutory Regulations, British Standards and industry best practice. Experience in managing stakeholder aspirations and balancing technical requirements and financial constraints. Experience operating as the 'Responsible Engineer' for discipline specific policy and standard approvals, concessions and process controls.
