About The RoleMorrison Energy Servicesis recruiting for aPrinciple Designerto work on ourUKPN ContractcontractinEast Anglia.As the PrincipleDesigneryou will be part of our Design Teamwho are responsiblefor production and checking of electrical transmission designs.We are working on behalf of UK Power Networks to deliver Design, Project Management, Construction, Handover & Commissioningservices. This work involves construction of new electricity substations, rebuild or refurbishments or electrical equipment at voltages up to and including 132kV.As thePrincipleDesigneryour responsibilities will include:Provide health, safety, environmental and CDM advice to design team. To enable team to remain fully compliant with all statuary H&S regulationsMonitor and report upon the timely provision of necessary surveys, reports, investigations and plant/equipment specifications to ensure effective and efficient designs that maximise value engineering opportunitiesMonitor and report the design progress highlighting resource constraintsAccountable for monitoring the provision and effectiveness of design risk assessments (HEML) are carried out on all projects. To ensure compliance with statuary regulations and safety by designArrange and hold regular design, Value Engineering and HEML reviews, monitoring monthly design progress and reporting. To ensure financial targets are metProvide CDM co-ordination in line with current regulations to ensure statutory CDM compliance (CPP and other directorates) and when applicable (Principal) Designer duties capital programmeResponsible for the compilation and submission of a statutory notice for all Notifiable projects within their design team and any updatesCollate monthly design dashboard, detailing latest view of project portfolios, workloads, delivery programmes, efficiencies and any underlying performance and design issuesProvision of accurate and current data to enable managers to co-ordinate delivery of civil / electrical design packages to agree quality, cost and P6 programme and in accordance with the Engineering Design ProcessSkills & Knowledge RequirementsTrack record in design co-ordination with experience in main stream engineering construction including electrical NetworksHold, or be working towards the NEBOSH Construction CertificateTechnical qualifications at HNC/HND or equivalent experienceProficient in the use of Microsoft desktop applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, P6, ProjectWise, & Alfresco.(training may be provided where required)A good safety ethos with a sound understanding of Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations and their applicationAbility to work unsupervised, set and comply with own targets, and identify and implement innovative cost saving solutionsExcellent written and communication skillsBe familiar with and adhere to Quality Assurance procedures and company design standards at all timesHold a full valid UK driving licenceAdditional InformationTo enable the design manager to ensure the team fulfil the role of principal designer where appropriate though professional advice and guidanceAccountable for the liaison with design coordinators/leads who will manage external design resources to ensure that the deliverables are completed to budgetary targets, design brief requirement and within agreed programmeTrack design progress in accordance with target programme of work and milestones to ensure designers meet agreed time scales and budgetsSupport Design Manager/Technical Leads/Team leaders for timely closure of actionsLiaise with technical leads to ensure designs are agreed and reviewed in accordance with departmental proceduresWork as a team player in a dedicated design teamThe job requires attendance to site meetings at customer site offices, some travel and work with various office locationsEvidence of good written, spoken and visual management skills are requiredEffective communication with senior colleagues and customers along with the ability to explain complex programming issues to junior staffSupport Design Team to produce effective and efficient designs that meet the company standards and all necessary statuary and regulatory approvalsAct as focal point and be responsible for CDM within the team ensuring compliance with the current CDM regulationsResponsible for the preparation and monitoring of Waste Management DataResponsible for ensuring Health and safety files and as-built drawings are completed and filed within programmed time scalesAssist with the capture of Lessons learned and coordinate these back into standards and processesWhat's in it for you?25 days' annual leave plus 8 days' bank holidayAnnual bonusPension schemeLife AssurancePrivate health careCompany car/ car allowance and fuel card
