You will play a key role in a high velocity team that manage their own sprints. You will have a passion to work on complex data making it consumable for engineers and products across the business. We do encourage getting together as a team and will expect some visits to the office even for mostly remote members.Position Overview:We are looking for a Principal Data Engineer preferably with a weather background to join a squad within Connected Aviation Solutions. You will work with engineers to deliver complex new data models and resolve bugs in our exciting platforms in a fully agile environment supporting commercial airlines across the world. You will take weather data from a variety of sources, design the right data model to make consumption by other products throughout Collins easy and deliver the data to them through an API.Teamwork is a must - you should be willing to collaboratively code with your colleagues across the world to deliver great systems rather than just a great individual engineer.As a Principal Engineer you will help and mentor other more junior members around the team, helping them reach the next step in their career at Collins as your colleagues help you to have the opportunity to progress.Day to Day:Work with complex weather data from highly disparate sources in varied formats.Design the right layout for data in our warehouse based on customer needs.Design, code and successfully automate the ingest of the weather data with the right amount of monitoring.Form the structure of an API to provide the data to end customers.Carry out design and code reviews for other engineers on the team.Mentoring other more junior engineers.Stand-upsBacklog refinements, sprint reviews, sprint planning as a member of the teamEssential Skills / Experience:Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or relevant training coupled with experience.Team workingCommunication – Can document and articulate what you have built clearly and concisely to team members and stakeholders.Data warehouse design and managementAWS redshift (or other similar data warehouse technology)DockerAWS CloudFormationLinux + BashDesirable Skills / Experience:OAuthPythonC#Collins Aerospace Diversity & Inclusion Statement: Diversity drives innovation; inclusion drives success.
