The team’s primary objective is to support Business Analytics Community in Schroders through Governance and Best Practice guidance for Analytics Platforms and Reporting Solutions. We empower business and tech teams across the organisation to utilize the power of data insights and business analytics to improve strategic decision making. The team is supporting the reporting requirements of core customers through providing a data platform for full service end-to-end report development or co-create collaboration.Who we’re looking forWe are looking for a person who is passionate about the possibilities of data-driven culture and the advantages that organisations adopting data-driven learning can have in this rapidly changing market environment. The primary focus of the Principal Data Engineer role is collaborating with stakeholders on various levels to gain a deep understanding of existing business processes and needs, identify key measures to provide meaningful insight into the various aspects of the business. The individual will be required to implement end to end reporting & analytics solutions applying the latest enterprise engineering practices ensuring security, performance, and quality standards.What you’ll doAs part of the firm’s strategy to drive the adoption of Microsoft Power platform and streamline reporting and analytics processes across the organisation, we are looking for a Data Engineer with extensive multi-cloud data engineering experience and in-depth understanding of end-to-end development and deployment processes. The role provides a good balance of creativity and structure for somebody passionate about data. The knowledge, experience and qualifications you needHighly skilled in data analysis, data modelling and designing ETL processes;Understanding the concepts of Data Mesh architecture and Data Products;Expert at T-SQL with experience in performance tuning and dealing with large data volumes;Good understanding on concepts of enterprise big data architecture;Extensive experience of developing end-to-end reporting and analytics solutions. This includes Azure Synapse, Azure SQL Database, SSAS, Power Query / DAX, Power BI;Knowledge of Azure platform including Data Lakes, Data Warehouse, Azure Data Factory;Experience and good understanding of the full Software Development Lifecycle, including the use of Azure Dev Ops, Visual Studio (SSDT) for continuous integration and deployment;Good level of understanding the differences in the approach for building self-service BI (business or IT managed) vs Corporate BI solutions including the choice of data sources and ETL approach;Understanding security model designs within the data estate;Business knowledge in the financial Investment services;Experience of working in the Financial Industry is beneficial;Understanding of principles of building solutions using Snowflake, open-source frameworks, multi-cloud infrastructure;Experience of implementation of other Power Platform solutions (Power Automate, Power Apps) is an advantage;Experience of Agile working practices andUnderstanding of Data Quality approaches such as shift left.What you’ll be likePersonable, credible, with excellent communication skills, experienced in the consultative style necessary to gain the trust and cooperation of non-team members and senior staff;Must have excellent attention to detail and ability to keep the bigger context and strategic vision in mind;Ability to translate complicated technical data issues into business implications and impact to brief data owners and stakeholders;Passionate, keen and energetic with demonstrable enthusiasm and commitment;Receptive to others'ideas and responds constructively to challenges;Be a change ambassador open to collaboration on all levels with a creative approach to each problem;Able to easily adapt to changing environments and continue to deliver value andVery open and pro-active in knowledge sharing, always helping team members grow and improve their skills.We recognise potential, whoever you areOur purpose is to provide excellent investment performance to clients through active management.
