There is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic scientist to join the Radiotherapy Physics team in the Arden Centre, Coventry. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the research activities within the department. This will include managing the radiotherapy physics aspect of clinical trials as well as scientific and technical research projects. They will act as lead specialist in this area as well as working routinely in other aspects of the clinical service. *Please be advised that interviews for this post are provisionally scheduled for week commencing 17th June 2024*Main duties of the jobThe Radiotherapy Physics department has active research partnerships with the University of Warwick and Coventry University which the post holder will be expected to strengthen and develop. The post holder will also work with the Operation Lead to encourage and support the internal research and development activities of radiotherapy clinical scientists and technologists. Clinical trials activities will be managed by the post holder in close collaboration with the department research radiographer and medical staff. Radiotherapy Physics is part of the Clinical Physics and Bioengineering (CPBE) group at UHCW. In addition to radiotherapy work the post holder will coordinate and facilitate links across all of CPBE to promote research and development. Applicants should hold HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist and MPE certification for radiotherapy. We have a modern portfolio of techniques including a growing SABR service. The Arden Centre is located on the University Hospital site at Walsgrave which is on the edge of historic Coventry with convenient transport to the City and easy access to rural Warwickshire, the M6 and the M69 motorways. Part time and flexible working arrangements including moderate working from home can be accommodated. We are an accredited training department at all levels of medical physics including HSST. Main duties: 1. To act as lead Medical Physics Expert in Radiotherapy Physics research. This means acting as a lead source of knowledge and expertise in this field, to interpret measured and predicted results and determine the reasons for anomalous results and the cause of subtle or non-reproducible equipment or technique faults. 2. Research and Development:2.1. To assist with the strategic development of programmes of research in Clinical Physics and Biomedical Engineering, supporting those who seek external funding.2.2. To manage the portfolio of Radiotherapy Physics research and clinical trials activity.2.3. To foster and coordinate links with academic institutions.2.4. To promote and facilitate joint research between UHCW and the West Midlands Radiotherapy Network.2.5. To initiate, supervise and carry out research in Radiotherapy Physics seeking external funding where appropriate.2.6. To report on the results of such research at national and international scientific meetings and by published papers in refereed journals. 3. Management3.1. To undertake interviews, appraisals and personal progress reviews as delegated by the Head of Radiotherapy Physics.3.2. To procure equipment and services relevant to specialist area.3.3. To monitor and report to the Head of Radiotherapy Physics on the non-staff budget for the relevant specialist area of radiotherapy physics.3.4. To deputise for the Radiotherapy Physics Operational Lead in his/her absence.3.5. To co-ordinate the work of the department for the relevant specialist area of radiotherapy physics.
