Cranleigh STEM is excited to partner exclusively with an innovative start-up focusing on CO2 capture technology - working out of their HQ based in Nottinghamshire. The company is currently recruiting a Principal Chemist to join its R&D team on a permanent basis - where you will manage a series of synthesis projects, manage a small team of PhD qualified Scientists and assist with grant applications.

Principal Chemist responsibilities

  • Contribute to CO2 adsorption technology research.
  • Promote innovation in CO2 sorbent technologies by exploring novel materials, refining processes, and advancing methodologies to elevate sorption efficiency.
  • Lead a diverse team of scientists and engineers engaged in CO2 capture within materials. Offer technical direction, mentorship, and assistance to team members, ensuring the achievement of project goals.
  • Create project strategies, establish key milestones, and efficiently allocate resources to ensure project delivery within defined scope, budget, and schedule. Continuously track progress, proactively identify challenges, and enact corrective actions as required to maintain project momentum.
  • Identify and assess potential risks and uncertainties associated with R&D projects.
  • Prepare technical reports, scientific publications, and presentations.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, investors, and regulatory bodies.

Principal Chemist requirements

  • PhD qualification in Chemistry, Materials Science or closely related field of study.
  • Proven experience working with CO2 capture, CO2 utilisation, CO2 reduction.
  • Strong background in synthesis - specifically synthesis/modification of function materials.
  • Experience leading/mentoring a team of highly qualified Scientists/Engineers.
  • A deep understanding of material/surface formulation chemistry.
  • Ability to work well independently and within a start-up environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment and build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset.
