Job DescriptionAs the Principal Architect you will be a core part of the Leadership team for the CIO of Mortgages & Financial Wellbeing (M&FW). You will be accountable for the definition and delivery of the Architecture that supports our Mortgage portfolio.You will provide thought leadership and architectural direction to our Architecture and Engineering teams.You will drive the definition of technology roadmaps that support our business ambitions and align to our overarching technology strategy. You will lead the definition and assurance of end-to-end solution architectures for complex change, assuring both the quality and completeness of our solutions. This role will drive a culture of continuous improvement, with a focus on building architecture capability (including people) across all disciplines.Across M&FW, we have an important journey ahead of us to build and maintain our position in the mortgage market and respond to changing customer needs, guided by the strategic pillars of More Rewarding Relationship, Simply Brilliant Service and Focused, Fit and Fast. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.Lead the ongoing evolution of the architecture capability (both within M&FW and the wider Society Architecture Practice) to ensure that it continuously improves and can meet the ongoing needs of the Society.Lead the definition of the short to medium term Architectural Roadmap and Runway for M&FW.Lead the definition, socialisation and implementation of solution architecture across the M&FW transformation portfolio.Develop and build strategic relationships with external parties (software vendors, research companies, industry bodies, and strategic partners) to ensure the definition and delivery of architecture is future proofed and in line with industry best-practice.Influential in the expenditure of an equivalent M&FW Strategic Transformation and regulatory budget of circa £50 to £70m. Accountable for ensuring the E2E integrity of Solution Architecture and Design.We need somebody with:Deep applied experience of leading and defining complex Solution Architectures.Strong influencing and stakeholder management up to ExCo level to secure buy-in and facilitate informed decision making.Experience of establishing and running Architectural governance and assurance.Experience of developing Architectural Roadmaps and feeding into investment and scheduling cycles.Track record of building high-performing Architectural teams and capability.Experience working with, and developing, Architectures that span both on-premise and cloud hosted technologies.Experience working within Financial Services, or similar regulated sectors highly desirable.Experience of working with 3rd party partners and vendors is highly desirable.Experience of developing Architectures within ‘agile’ delivery methodologies is preferable.Our Customer First behaviours are all about putting customers and members at the heart of how we work together.
