As the Political Specialist for the Political-Military Unit within the Political Section, the incumbent will be responsible for drafting daily reports, cables and other products to inform Embassy leadership and Washington staff on UK foreign policy and security sector developments.Duties will include: building and maintaining contacts within the UK government, think tanks, and private industry; organizing and attending embassy representational functions for key contacts and designing programs for visiting U.S. officials; providing detailed briefings to Political officers on all aspects of UK foreign, security, and defense policy; attending and reporting on defense and security briefings, think tank events, conferences, and private sector events; and facilitating the Ambassador's or Deputy Chief of Mission's (DCM) participation in events organized by the political section, drafting correspondence and remarks for the Ambassador, DCM and Political Minister-Counselor as needed.EXPERIENCE: Minimum 5 years experience as a foreign, security, or defense policy professional in government, parliament, think tank, media, or academic fields.Please address this factor in your ERA application under Major Duties and Responsibilities.JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must have thorough working knowledge of the UK political system, and, a strong working knowledge of UK current affairs and history.Please address this factor in your ERA application under Major Duties and Responsibilities.
