The role
Applications are invited for the post of Policy Officer, an interesting and varied role that sits at the forefront of delivering on the Council’s key corporate ambitions. The role sits in the broader Policy team which has responsibilities around Resident Engagement and the Equalities agenda as well as supporting Departments across the Council in developing key Policy ideas.
Key pieces of work for the team recently have included developing an Anti-Poverty Strategy, supporting Children’s Services with their Improvement journey and writing a new Corporate Plan for the borough.
The role involves both undertaking research that will facilitate the design of evidence-based strategy and policy. You will be confident and adept at employing consultation and engagement methods to engage a diverse range of stakeholders, professionals and residents. The post holder will prepare high-quality reports, briefing papers, project documentation and monitor regional and national policy developments.
About you
You will be a strong self-starter, able to work alone, with a good understanding of local government and current issues in Tameside. You will be educated to degree level with previous experience in policy and/or project delivery roles, as well as experience of developing and maintaining external partnerships across a variety of public, voluntary and private sector agencies. As a self-motivated and engaging team member, you will be willing to take the initiative and will have the confidence to influence decision making.
