Your new company
The London Borough of Ealing is currently engaged in over £5bn of large developments and regeneration schemes, including significant transport development that would greatly enhance travel across different parts of London. Ealing is one of ten “Metropolitan Town Centres” and currently processes over 6000 applications including growth being generated by not one but three Cross Rail stations that are now live. The Borough is heavily involved in a variety of planning applications including large residential developments currently ongoing as part of its regeneration programme and numerous employment developments which are set to provide numerous career progression opportunities.
Your new role
Ealing has recently completed a wide range of applications including the Dickens Yard Redevelopment and Filmworks Cinema Scheme, so you will be providing planning advice on a full range of planning issues.
You will analyse, interpret, consider options and make recommendations on applications submitted under planning and associated legislation, in accordance with statutory requirements, the Council’s policies and procedures, and good practice.
To provide advice on pre-application schemes, promoting the development team approach, and to contribute to the investigation of the development potential of land.
You will process applications from a wide range of planning applications (basic to strategic) covering a variety of complex planning issues, to include consideration of heritage, urban design, sustainability and other related matters, whilst balancing conflicting interests, and participating in community development and regeneration projects where required.
You will partake in developing policy for planning and coordinate with strategic-level and partner organisations when needed. Your work with development partners and their consultant teams will be essential, so you will have an understanding of the entire development process. The role will include the full range of development management skills in providing pre-application advice and appraising relevant applications associated with different aspects of the development.
What you'll need to succeed
You will ideally be degree qualified in town planning or a RTPI equivalent subject and with a proven track record of dealing with a range of development management or Strategic Planning applications. Your knowledge and understanding of the statutory processes involved will be crucial to the development succeeding. You should also have a track record in a supervisory role, ideally within Local Government, although other backgrounds will be considered. Ideally, you will have experience of securing external funding or investment, and you will have previously performed an expert witness role for a previous employer. You will have excellent knowledge and understanding of planning policy and practice and good IT skills with excellent verbal and written communication.
What you'll get in return
The Borough has all the benefits of an outer London Borough: its access to the countryside, beautiful open spaces and parks within the Borough itself, and a diverse cultural offer of historic buildings, music, comedy, and food. With the new transport links due to go live in the next few years, however, you will also get the accessibility of Zone one. You will earn a generous basic salary with additional benefits that include generous holiday and company pension scheme, all within a fun and professional environment. There is access to voluntary benefit options including holiday buy, child care vouchers, share save scheme and life assurance. In line with the London Borough of Ealing’s policy for flexible working you will be encouraged to complete work from home as appropriate to improve the work life balance for Council Employees. You will also be working as part of a team that promotes from within and will push for employees to be involved with a wide variety of applications to gain experience in many areas.
