About the job
South Western Railway are looking for an highly motivated individual with passion to improve the reliability of the fleet through innovative and practical solutions, to join their team as a Performance Engineer!
Reporting directly to the Head ofFleet Contracted Maintenance, you will work closely with the maintainers of the Desiro fleet daily to ensure safety, reliability and performance targets are met, and with the goal of improving performance of the fleet.
This is an excellentopportunity for an Engineering graduate or apprentice, who has had some experience with fleet maintenance within the railway.
The role will require full-time presence at Siemens Northam Depot (Southampton), managing depot output and drivingavailability and reliability of the Desiro fleet.
Your main responsibilities will be:
Responsible for improving the performance of the Desiro Fleet by working collaboratively with the Siemens performance, production and technical teams.
Lead investigation on daily incidents in service and initiate remedial actions with Siemens and/or internal stakeholders to prevent repeat occurrences.
Undertake in depth technical analysis to identify failure trends and provide technical recommendations to the production teams on fault finding and rectification.
Support the SWR & Siemens Fleet Performance Manager with active participation in identifying trends and root cause analysis.
Prepare and provide performance and safety related incident reports. These include technical investigations covering repeat defects, performance failures, technical non- compliance, delay minutes and all significant fleet incidents.
Assist in the development of reliability growth plans, modifications, maintenance specifications, and fleet checks to enhance reliability.
Support Service Delivery Managers in management of maintenance management systems, databases, and in remote condition monitoring.
Undertake management check and fleet technical audit activities.
As a minimum, you will need to have:
Engineering qualification, either a degree or apprenticeship.
Technical and practical maintenance knowledge of relevant rolling stock highly desirable.
Understanding of safety legislation and Railway Group Standards.
High level ofliteracy, numeric and IT skills, with ability to analyse and interrogate data.
Experience ofworking with maintainers, and commercial awareness highly desirable.
Excellentinterpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain positive long-term relationships with stakeholders.
Working pattern
You will work an average of 37 hours per week over 5 days
Mon – Fri, 9am – 5pm.
Main location is at Northam Depot, Southampton, with occasional travel to other fleet maintenance locations as required
