What You'll Do:
The Ohio Attorney General's Office is currently seeking a public service minded leader for a Peace Officer Training Compliance Specialist position to work at the Ohio Peace Officer’s Training Academy (OPOTA).
This position will work a remote schedule. There may be changes to this schedule based on training and operational needs. The headquarter location is London, OH
.
The Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) houses both Commission and Academy staff. Commission staff oversees training requirements and curriculum for peace officers, private security, local corrections, jail personnel, K-9 units, and humane agents, in addition to firearms programs for public defender investigators, bailiffs, probation officers, and parole officers. They also oversee certification standards of peace officers. Academy staff provides instruction in basic, advanced, and technical subjects for the Ohio law enforcement community using the latest research and recommended professional practices. The Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) is seeking a Certification Officer.
The
Peace Officer Training Compliance Specialist
will perform the following duties:
Conducts inspections of training schools as assigned in various jurisdictions for the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) to ensure compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Ohio Administrative Code, and OPOTC Rules & Regulations
Performs site inspections of school’s physical facilities for training (i.e., classrooms, restrooms, defensive tactics & driving areas, safe firearms range, etc.)
Ensures proper completion & timely submission of administrative paperwork by school commanders (e.g., school calendar, attendance rosters, trainee certification forms, & oath of office/commission paperwork)
Checks instructor certification verifying instructors are certified to teach specified topics; monitors school/academy curriculum to evaluate quality of training
Conducts final audit with school commanders prior to program completion (e.g., total hours of school, student attendance, students completing physical skills, student performance)
Assists school commanders in the effective operation of schools according to rules & regulations
Provides technical assistance to school commanders in completion & submission of administrative paperwork.
Provides miscellaneous support for OPOTC & prepares administrative reports for supervisors information/approval
Assists in site selection & presentation of school commander conferences
Designs forms & checklists to aid school commanders in complying with OPOTC Rules & Regulations; assists in development & revision to OPOTC rules & regulations & commanders handbooks
Checks court records & employment history of peace officers; completes & maintains administrative paperwork (e.g., travel expense reports, field agent weekly activity summary report, time & attendance reports, school inspection reports, school commander evaluations, & notice of violations).
Performs public relations and other related duties:attends &/or participates in Academy/Commission meetings & represents OPOTC at professional association meetings; provides speeches defining OPOTC roles, rules, & regulations, &/or distributes OPOTC certificates at graduations
Conducts investigations & compiles preliminary investigative reports for the Commission
Maintains filing system of all paperwork; serves as back-up to other compliance officers as needed.
