ABOUT THE WORTHGATE SCHOOLThe Worthgate School offers an outstanding international pre-university educational experience tostudents aged 13+ from all over the world. Worthgate students live and work in our beautiful Victoriancampus, studying for GCSEs, A levels, the IB and University Foundation Programmes, and preparing foradmission to universities across the country and elsewhere. We pride ourselves on our approach toteaching and learning, with small class sizes and an inclusive atmosphere ensuring that students aretreated as individuals and build great relationships with staff.We are seeking to appoint a House Pastoral Director (HPD) to join our Pastoral and Welfare teams fromSeptember 2024, under the leadership of our Assistant Principal Pastoral. Applications will be considered fromteachers of any subject, although the ability to teach Business, History, Sociology or Psychology would be anadvantage.We are an international boarding school and hence this role is a wonderful opportunity to have an insight intointernational education and to embrace the amazing diversity within the school.Our school has four Houses named after four Kent castles: Deal, Dover, Hever and Leeds. Hence we have fourPastoral Directors who lead and manage these houses. The HPD role involves driving and promoting their House’s ethos; (with the other HPDs) ensuring the personal development curriculum is of the highest qualityand age-appropriate; monitoring and supporting the students holistically within their House (includingsupporting their good behaviour, attendance and welfare). The role will involve collaborating closely withother members of the welfare (e.g. Boarding, Medical and Counselling) and academic teams. This role will sitalongside teaching duties, with a time allowance of 8 hours per week to fulfil this role specifically. Please referto the separate Job Description for more details.Regarding the teaching role, this is a unique opportunity to devote time to educating international studentswith the highest aspirations. Our student body is diverse, inspiring and ever-growing in number. In addition tooffering the more traditional programmes of study such as GCSE and A-level, students can also follow theInternational Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, University Foundation Programme and various preparatoryprogrammes (PRE-KS4 and PRE-KS5 one-year programmes).We are not only looking for a Teacher who can harness the international contexts of our classrooms and offeran inclusive environment for students to engage in dialogue and develop their academic skills, but alsosomeone who can drive engaging co-curricular opportunities for our students and staff. We expect teachersto be involved in our super-curricular activities, which we call “electives”, on our Worthgate FuturesProgramme (please refer to our website for more details and theseparate teacher Job Description).Applicants will need to be a confident, professional and approachable communicators, as there will be arequirement to liaise with both external and internal stakeholders. They should also be highly organised, asthey will need to be able to meet deadlines, but also possess a flexible approach to work, as priorities couldchange at short notice. A good level of all Microsoft Office Suite applications and the ability to analyse andmanage data would be advantageous.Applicants should also evidence a commitment to their professional development. There are numerousopportunities at Worthgate for continued professional development and successful applicants can opt toundertake the NPQ qualifications (Leading Teaching, Senior Leadership and Headship) with us in partnershipwith UCL and multiple teachers enrol on these NPQ programmes each year, funded by the school.
