We are the public body that looks after England’s historic environment. We champion historic places, helping people understand, value and care for them.
We have a fantastic opportunity for you to join us as our Historic Environment Record (HER) Partnerships Supervisor, as part of our Historic Environment Record (HER) Partnerships team. This is a part time role, 0.6 FTE.
The Historic Environment Record (HER) Partnerships team is committed to creating improved access to historic environment information via a national network of locally held Historic Environment Records (HERs). Its mission is to support the development of HERs through the provision of advice and guidance and through partnership working.
As a member of the HER Partnerships team, you will manage a national programme of HER audits, collaborate with colleagues across our organisation and with external partners, and contribute to the development of HER best practice, standards, guidance and documentation.
The location of this role is National where we offer hybrid working, you will be based in one of our following offices and from home - Newcastle, York, Manchester, Birmingham, Swindon, Bristol, Portsmouth and Cambridge.
What you will be doing
Manage the national programme of HER audits; this involves working with HERs to carry out an audit of their HER, including:
the assessment of HER structure, content and compliance with standards and data quality, and
the identification of actions to develop and enhance their services within a framework of continuous improvement.
Contribute to the development of HER best practice, standards, guidance and documentation, with particular reference to the new UK HER Manual, FAIR data principles and implementation of the Heritage Information Access Simplified (HIAS).
Gather, assess and share information on HERs to ensure consistent approaches to local authority engagement. Requires building and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues across our organisation and with external partners.
Represent the HER Partnerships team at seminars, conferences, national and regional HER meetings, and take an active role in raising awareness of the team within our organisation and the broader historic environment sector.
Assist the effective and efficient operational management of HIAS work packages, including projects to replace the new Heritage Gateway, the NHRE to HER programme and National Security Copy (NSC) workflow.
Who we are looking for
Experience of working with Local Authority Historic Environment Records, database management including data standards, reference data and thesauri, structures, formats and common issues, as well as interoperability
Experience of working in an advisory capacity
Experience working with GIS and data analytics software
Knowledge of the processes used to manage land-use change and their interaction with the historic environment, including the planning process, forestry and environmental land management schemes
