Paediatric Critical Care Physiotherapist

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated physiotherapist to fill a band 7 post within the cardiorespiratory physiotherapy team at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced band 6 physiotherapist or band 7 therapist, with a specialist interest in paediatric critical care physiotherapy to join our dynamic, forward thinking, and friendly team. This post will be predominantly based on the cardiac intensive care unit and cardiothoracic ward. The cardiorespiratory physiotherapy team cover CICU/Cardiac, PICU/NICU, long-term ventilation, CF, complex respiratory, ENT, neuromuscular and general surgery. The team consists of two band 8 physiotherapists, six full time band 7s and three rotational band 6 physiotherapists, with a band 4 assistant. Previous paediatric critical care experience is essential. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the out of hours respiratory physiotherapy service.Main duties of the job
To undertake all aspects of your clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner. To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work. To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients within the cardiorespiratory unit, and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time 24-hour cover is provided for patients requiring emergency chest physiotherapy. This takes the form of on-call after the normal working day. All staff are expected to undertake overtime duties, as required, which include:o Overnight on call duties (lone working), including bank holidayso Weekend cover, including bank holidayso Weekend Standby, including bank holidays To be responsible for maintaining own competency to practice through reflective practise and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities by keeping up to date with any new trends and developments, and incorporate them as necessary into your work. To undertake reflective practice and maintain a portfolio which reflects personal development commensurate with your level. To represent the trust externally (locally, regionally and nationally) regarding physiotherapy services provided to patients within their clinical area. To work with the cardiorespiratory team and head of service in developing the physiotherapy service

Experience/KnowledgeEssential
Substantial post graduate experience with at least 3 years in paediatrics, including paediatric critical care Knowledge of general principles of paediatric physiotherapy with advanced knowledge in paediatric cardiorespiratory physiotherapy Experience of managing children with neurodevelopmental impairment and acute neurological disorders Organising physiotherapy input into a relevant, specific clinical unit and contributing to the general running of a physiotherapy department. Supervision of physiotherapists, students and assistants Previous experience of Audit Knowledge of principles of research through practice and experience
