Outreach Outpatients - Registered Nurse

To work as a member of the Outreach Outpatient Team and provide specialised nursing care for the patients in clinic. This requires knowledge of equipment and specialised training on procedures undertaken in the outpatient department. The post holder will need to demonstrate a genuine interest in outpatients, whilst experience in outpatients would be desirable full training will be given. There is an expectation that the post holder will also support the other off site areas. In consultation with Senior staff, the assessment, implementation and setting of standards of care. Maintain standards in accordance with Department / Trust policies and procedures. Maintain a safe working environment, being aware of the necessity to comply with Health and Safety regulations and the environmental Health act, and to attend mandatory training courses. Maintain safe custody of all drugs and medicines and ensure policies and procedures are adhered to. To provide holiday and sickness cover where required. To run and supervise a clinic / treatment session as required. Work unsupervised at times, using Departmental Protocols and Policies. Demonstrate an awareness of departmental budgets.Main duties of the job Work as a member of the Outreach Outpatients team and to provide specialised nursing care for patients throughout the various areas. Maintain high standards of communication in all formats including verbal written and electronic. To be involved in the breaking of bad news as agreed with the clinicians. Ensures that the quality of written communication and information given to patients is maintained and in accordance with the Patient Services Department quality standards. Ensuring that equipment is safe for use and maintained as per policy. Keep up to date with clinical developments and standards, i.e. NICE guidance. Maintaining a portfolio of clinical skills and competency based assessments, underpinning theoretical knowledge as required by the NMC. Self-development and participation in continuous and post basic education, as laid down by the NMC. Complies with requirements of the Caldicott Report, the Data Protection Act, Access to Health Records Act and subsequent legislation issued in relation to computer retained, preserving the confidentiality of patient identifiable data at all times. Teaching and mentorship of students and junior staff. To assist with induction training of new members of staff, meeting professional requirements by actively participating in teaching.
