We’re seeking an experienced ocean freight coordinator to join our growing team in Derby.We’re a compact and dynamic team of freight forwarders organising international import and export shipments by air, sea (LCL and FCL), road, and rail to meet our customers’ extensive requirements.The role involves:Global import and export operations – start-to-finish!Quoting and booking shipments to and from worldwide pointsKeeping up-to-date with market trends and pricing to ensure customers and agents receive the best possible rateUsing the various tariffs available, or liaising with suppliers and carriers to obtain the best price for the shipmentAccurately preparing all necessary documents in a timely mannerForwarding booking instructions to carriersHandling order traces, invoices, and processing pre-alerts from overseas agentsEnsuring cargo is only released against correct documentation and receipt of cleared fundsMonitoring the shipment through to delivery, ensuring the job is completed to meet company standards and the customer’s expectationsKeeping all relevant parties updated throughoutMaking follow-up and keep-in-touch calls to customers to ensure they’re happy with the rates and service we’re providingDeveloping good working relationships with shipping lines, overseas agents, hauliers and our other branchesGrowing our prospect databaseAll colleagues undertake general office duties including answering the phone, filing and dealing with the post.The role requires:Previous experience in quoting and operations of ocean freight forwarding is essentialKnowledge of freight and customs systems would be advantageous, eg: CNS, Destin8, CDS and FCL, but full training will be providedProficiency in preparing and verifying shipping documents, invoices, and customs declarationsUnderstanding relevant regulations, policies, and procedures and compliance with themProblem-solving skills to troubleshoot any issues that may arise during the shipment processAttention to detail and accuracy in maintaining records and reportsSelf-motivated with ability to use own initiative to work autonomously and manage own workloadExcellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skillsA team player – from time-to-time you may be required to help other teams to cover for busy periods, holidays, or illnessEagerness to learn and progress, and the ability to grasp new systems and processes quicklyGood organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet tight deadlinesExperienced user of Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Word and OutlookDeveloping good relationships with supplier network, including hauliers, shipping lines, and overseas agentsAbility to negotiate effectively with customers and suppliersCommitted, motivated, energetic, and fun with a positive can-do attitudeFlexible with a willingness to get involved in all aspects of the day-to-day businessAbility to work well whilst under time constraints with a ‘right first-time’ approach.Experience in other modes of transport would be beneficial.Benefits include:Company pensionUp to 25 days holiday, plus bank holidaysCycle to work schemeFree parkingContinuous development with opportunities for progression in a growing company.LocationThis role is full-time Monday to Friday based at our office in Derby.Apply nowIf you’re a passionate individual who’s looking for a challenge and want to join a successful and fast-growing company, we’d love to hear from you.
