OOP Pause Post CCT Clinical Fellow in Paediatric GastroenterologyJobTitle: Out of programme Higher Specialist Trainee postGrade:ST 4 +Specialty/Department:Paediatric Gastroenterology and NutritionSiteand Location: Leeds General Infirmary, LeedsDurationof the post: 12 monthsStartdate: September 2024INFORMATIONABOUT THE DEPARTMENTThesuccessful applicant will join a multidisciplinary team involved in running aregional Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition service and provide tertiarycare to North and West Yorkshire.Thedepartment provides expertise in the management of Inflammatory Bowel disease(IBD) (over 300 patients), intestinal failure (IF) (being one of the firstestablished IF centres in the country, looking after home PN patients andpatients started on the newly NICE approved drug Teduglutide), enteral tube fedpatients (around 2000 patients), chronic constipation and dysmotility,functional GI disorders, eosinophilic GI disorders and GI problems in childrenwith neurodisability. We provide onsite GI consultant assessments for a broadrange of paediatric subspecialties (Hepatology, Nephrology, Cardiology,Neonatology, Paediatric Surgery, Oncology,PICU etc.).The ward has 16 beds shared between GI and generalpaediatrics. There are subspecialtyclinics in inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal failure, coeliac disease,dysmotility, general gastroenterology and transition clinics for IBD andIF.Main duties of the jobThepost holder will be involved in the day-to-day management of inpatients, reviewof day case patients and attend outpatients clinics. They will haveresponsibilities along with the other junior doctors in organising the weeklymultidisciplinary meetings and present cases.There will be opportunities to further their training in practicalprocedures such as endoscopy and colonoscopy. The weekly ward timetableincludes close supervision by consultants and several opportunities forclinical teaching. The post-holder wouldbe expected to participate in medical audit and research projects.Thepost holder will be expected to do on calls in general paediatrics orspecialities, so around 60-65% of the time will be within the PaediatricGastroenterology and Nutrition speciality.LEVELSOF RESPONSIBILITYThepost holder will be always under consultant supervision.TEACHINGAND RESEARCH/STUDY AND TRAININGTherewill be formal teaching (once weekly within the department by MDT members) andattendance at post-graduate educational meetings is encouraged.Therewill be access to the internet for literature searches at ward level.ExtensiveResearch facilities exist at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust andresearch will be actively encouraged within the department and in conjunctionwith other departments of the hospital where there is an unusually wide rangeof research activity. REQUIREMENTS OF THE POST3.1 General Training and QualificationsDuration 12 monthsThispost is aimed for trainees that want to come into the speciality for 12 monthsbefore applying for GRID training in Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutritionor to use it to gain SPIN competencies.Thereis the possibility for OOP position to be pre-approved as part of the GRIDtraining program if the candidate is in the adequate year of training andfulfil the criteria to apply for GRID.Theapplicant should have MBBCh and MRCPCH or equivalent.3.2 ExperienceThesuccessful applicant should be able to work at ST4-7 level or to be able todemonstrate equivalent level experience.Thesuccessful applicant will have both inpatient and outpatient dutiesTheywill need to be confident in the assessment of sick childrenTheywill need experience of working in a multidisciplinary team and have excellent verbaland written communication skillsTheywill need to have a good understanding of research methodology and be able tosupervise and support clinical assessments as part of a research study. Theywill need to have, or be prepared to undertake, good clinical practice (GCP)training.3.3 Personal AttributesTheappointee will have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that areadequate to enable effective communications about medical topics with patientsand colleagues. See also Person Specification.Theyneed to be enthusiastic, keen to learn and demonstrate commitment to deliveringhigh quality care as part of the neurosciences team3.4 Clinical AuditTheappointee will be expected to attend and contribute to Audit meetings,mortality and morbidity meetings and application of agreed clinical guidelines.5.2 AccountabilityThe postholder is manageriallyaccountable for the use of resources to the managing consultant andprofessionally accountable to the Chief Medical Officer through ClinicalDirectors. This may be amended in thelight of the Trusts management arrangements.5.3 Standards of Conduct and BehaviourYou are required to work to thestandards set out by the General Medical Council in Good Medical Practice. This includes protecting patients when youbelieve that a doctors or other colleagues conduct, performance or health isa threat to them. If, after establishingthe facts, it is necessary, you must follow the Trusts procedures in thismatter and inform your Clinical Director or Medical Director in the firstinstance.Your general conduct at work shouldcomply with the standards set out in the Trusts document on Appraisal, inparticular the section on Core Behaviours.5.6 Leave ArrangementsAll leave should be applied for inaccordance with the Trusts Leave Policy, normally giving six weeks notice ofany leave, other than in exceptional circumstances.5.7 TrainingDuring the course of youremployment, you agree to undergo whatever training the Trust deems necessary. This may include, but is not limited to,induction training, professional development and safe working practices. Funding of such training will be inaccordance with the Trusts Staff Development Policy.5.8 Continuing Medical EducationThe Trust fully supports therequirement for CME by the relevant Royal College and acknowledges that it isan essential component of a specialty doctors professional activities thatwill be reviewed during the appraisal process and revalidation.
