TerraSond is looking to add an experienced Offshore Senior Survey Technician to the team. The Senior Survey Technician is responsible for directing surveys to ascertain the locations of natural features and man-made structures on the Earth's surface and underwater using electronic measuring equipment and other surveying instruments. He or she verifies the accuracy of collected data, and prepares or supervises the preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, documents and deliverables related to the survey. The Senior Survey Technician leads survey crews with minimal direction from the assigned Project Manager.

This role is an offshore role and will require a significant amount time spent on a vessel and may take place in inclement weather and extreme temperatures. Responsibilities may require an adjusted work schedule, long days, and evening/weekend hours to meet deadlines. Extensive travel is required.


Duties

  • Requisition, set up and configure data collection instruments required for survey
  • Operate collection instruments to accumulate required data
  • Record survey measurements and descriptive data using notes, drawings, sketches, and inked tracings
  • Perform calculations to determine earth curvature corrections, atmospheric impacts or measurements, traverse closures, adjustments, and tides
  • Prepare or supervise preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to land or hydrographic surveys
  • Verify, compile, process and prepare data to delineated electronic drawing format as specified by Project Manager or contract requirements
  • Coordinate findings with the work of processing personnel, clients, and others connected to survey projects
  • Verify survey data to include checking computations
  • Responsible for the return of survey equipment to shop, tagging any damaged or malfunctioning equipment so that it may be serviced
  • Review project contracts to ensure that survey data and results are presented in compliance with contract requirements
  • Assemble cartographic deliverables
  • Perform geographic and spatial analyses
  • Assist with mobilizing and demobilizing boats in the field


Required

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience combined with completed degree, 5 years of work experience, or equivalent combination of work experience and education
  • Experience managing own projects, communicating well with clients and mentoring junior staff members
  • Candidate must be legally eligible and insurable to drive to regular assignments
  • AS/AA or BS/BA in Geomatics, Cartography, Geography, Natural Sciences, Engineering, or other relevant discipline preferred
  • Experience with conventional optical land survey equipment to include levels, theodolite, TotalStation data collector, Electronic Distance Measuring Instrument (EDMI)
  • GPS equipment knowledge including static, DGPS, and Real time Kinematic, telemetry systems, data collectors, and GPS power systems
  • Knowledge of single beam echosounder, multi beam sonar, and side scan sonar
  • Knowledge of standard office equipment including personal computer, telephone system, fax machine, copier, 10 key calculator and printers
  • Experience using various hand and power tools
