Connect2Luton are excited to recruit a Occupational Health Adviser on behalf of Luton Borough Council.

Main purpose of position:

Deliver a comprehensive occupational health service to Luton Borough Council and Traded Services to support both employees and the employers to maximise health, attendance and productivity, whilst ensuring statutory obligations are met.

As a Occupational Health Adviser, you will be responsible to:

�Provide advice and support to managers and employees in all matters related to employee health and wellbeing, ensuring adherence to policies and current Legislation. Key responsibilities include: case management of referrals, sickness absence meetings, report writing to Senior Management, liaising with other health care professionals, sign posting to external agencies, supporting rehabilitation into work, and facilitating ill health retirements.

�Able to prioritise conflicting/demanding workloads to meet deadlines/SLA's and work in collaboration with Traded Service users and providers to maximise income generation opportunities.

�Maintain up to date knowledge of legislation to optimise best practice, support the Senior Occupational Health Adviser in the development and implementation of cost-effective health surveillance programmes in response. Review and recommend update Codes of Practice and procedures ensuring that objectives and standards of service are achieved and constantly improved.

�Maintain employee health records in line with statutory legislation. Provide reports to managers, analyse and interpret results to aid management in identifying health hazards and trends in the workplace.

�Support the delivery of a cost-effective health screening programme to determine fitness for work. Make recommendations to managers to support individuals with health issues, including disability, being mindful of the Equality Act 2010 and Health and Safety Legislation. Undertake research into medical conditions, treatments and specific work-based aids to enable/support individuals to work safely with minimal risk to their health.

�Support the management and co-ordination of the Fast Track Physio Programme using clinical expertise to prioritise referrals and provide advice and guidance to managers of any workplace implications.

�Act as the Council's expert witness at Final Sickness Hearings, Member Appeals and Employment Tribunals. The post holder works autonomously and is accountable for their actions, recommendations and decisions made.

�Contribute to corporate/divisional health and safety forums providing specialist advice/input into the development and regular review of the Council's health related policies.

Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience of operating as an Occupational Health Nurse or Adviser
  • Demonstrable knowledge of case management, providing recommendations/reports to enable effective management
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, active listening skills, ability to present information concisely and accurately with the ability to adjust style as circumstances demand to achieve positive outcome solutions. Able to negotiate with and influence others at all levels.
  • Able to demonstrate Excellent report writing skills. Able to comprehend, analyse, evaluate prepare and collate reports accurately for Senior Managers
  • Able to understand and work within the requirements of dealing with sensitive data and information in a safe and secure way
  • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of equality issues and legislation - able to integrate equality policies into service delivery
  • Evidence of NMC (CPD) portfolio or continuing OH CPD
  • Demonstrable knowledge of DPA, (GDPR), Health and Safety Regs.
  • Registered General Nurse or a Qualification in Occupational Health or relevant experience
