Obsolescence Manager

�50,000 up to 15% bonus, Bristol BS32, 6% pension matched contribution, 4 x salary life assurance, 25 + bank hols (option to buy additional days), parking, 40 hour working week with flexi start and finish times, potential for home some hybrid working.

Due to continued expansion this global leader within the defence industry are offering an exciting opportunity to join them as an obsolescence manager, to deliver an obsolescence management strategy and operating plan, to ensure the continued functionality and relevance of their vehicle systems and components.

Responsibilities of the obsolescence manager:

  • Continuously monitor and assess the obsolescence risks associated with components, technologies and systems.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive obsolescence management plans to mitigate risks and minimise disruptions to the customer.
  • Analyse the lifecycle of critical components and technologies to anticipate obsolescence issues and make informed decisions regarding product development and sourcing.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure the availability of critical components, negotiate agreements, and establish backup sourcing options when necessary.
  • Work closely with engineering, procurement and quality assurance, to align obsolescence management strategies with overall business objectives.
  • Support the inventory manager with the management of spare parts and inventory, optimising stock levels to meet production and maintenance needs while minimising excess.
  • Maintain accurate records of obsolescence-related data, generate reports, and present findings to senior management.

The obsolescence manager role would suit someone with proven experience in obsolescence management, ideally in the automotive or manufacturing sector, ideally with an degree or equivalent and experience, in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.

Skills and Experience required for the obsolescence manager:

  • Ability to develop and implement long-term obsolescence management strategies
  • Good understanding of vehicle components and technology lifecycles
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies
  • Capability to build and maintain relationships with suppliers to ensure a consistent supply of critical components
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess risks, evaluate data, and make informed decisions.
  • Familiarity with supply chain management and vendor relationships
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and make quick decisions
  • Knowledge of inventory control principles and practices.
  • An understanding of vehicle engineering and technology
  • Proven experience of codification activities with national codification bureau
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
