About this client/child: It was a pleasure to meet Rohan, an engaging 12-year-old boy who loves swimming and baths, sensory activities including Play Doh, trampolining, sand, and messy play – and is very motivated by food! He loves to play ‘rough and tumble’ and enjoys looking at photos and videos of himself, friends, and family members. He enjoys nice smells, going on holidays, massages, music, and dancing. He thrives on routine and can become bored easily. Rohan has a diagnosis of autism, ADHD, with possible OCD. He can become anxious and fixated on specific topics, upcoming events/schedules.  If he is overwhelmed, he may display behaviours that may challenge, including self-harming behaviour such as biting or hitting himself and breaking objects. This behaviour is not directed at others, but he may unintentionally lash out. Rohan is verbal; his receptive language is good, however his expressive language is delayed. Rohan struggles with self-care tasks and needs prompts and support, especially with personal care.

Overview of role: Rohan is brought back from school around 3.30pm. Rohan may have an after-school activity including basketball, swimming, dance psychotherapy, or, he may have a therapy session, this is based on ABA therapy. During a therapy session, Rohan’s SEN Manny / Nanny will maintain Rohan’s laundry, cook his dinner, tidy up around the house and make sure his school bag is ready for the next day. During school holidays, there is more time to plan interesting activities Rohan will enjoy. This is a permanent role. This is an after school, term-time only, but additional evening babysitting, weekend hours and up to 30 hours a week during school holidays are potentially available if required.

Who this job would suit: This role will suit someone who is calm, organised, and is naturally, a neat and tidy person. You’ll be patient, kind and have a genuine desire to help Rohan reach his potential. This role comes with training so you do not need years of SEN experience. You’ll need to be active and quick on your feet; Rohan is very mobile and has no awareness of danger. Rohan responds very well to male support staff, but the role is open to either. You’ll be emotionally resilient, and professional in your work.

What’s great about this job: This is a great opportunity to gain further experience and work with a lovely young man.
