The Recruitment Co is currently recruiting for an experienced NPI Project Engineer to join our clients manufacturing team based in Llanelli.
Contract: Permanent
Salary: Up to �41,500k per annum
Working hours: 37 hours per week: 8am-4.30pm Mon-Thurs, 8am to 1pm on Fridays.
Location: Based in Llanelli but will be required to travel abroad to support tooling / assembly buy offs
Responsible for:
New Product Introduction or modification supporting stamping & assembly tooling & Processes.
Qualifications:

  • HNC / Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Recognised 4 year apprenticeship in an Engineering Discipline


Knowledge / Experience:

  • Customer Liaison
  • BIW / Chassis / Structural Assemblies
  • Presswork / Tooling / Assembly / Gauges
  • GD&T in 3D CAD environment
  • NPI Projects for OEMS
  • Good computer skills - Microsoft Office / SAP / PDM
  • A proven background of Product & Process knowledge combined with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Catia


Key requirements:

  • Lead assembly equipment sourcing, buy off, installation and commissioning from kick off to volume production
  • Able to use CATIA and to transpose GD&T from complex assemblies into child parts (tolerancing)
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of high volume automotive manufacturing with specific attention to engineering processes.
  • Sound understanding of the core tools - PFMEA / Control Plan / Gauge R&R etc.
  • Current driving licence & valid Passport as travel to customers and suppliers will be required as and when necessary.
  • Prepared for periods away from home at domestic and foreign customers and suppliers.


Aptitude (Key abilities to be demonstrated):

  • Numerical reasoning and Interpreting Data (Statistics)
  • Fault Diagnosis/Problem Solving
  • Thorough understanding of specifying and using GD&T


Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing product design (where applicable), process design & gauge design (inc. feasibility) and introduction in line with QCD deliverables.
  • Supporting the follow up of Pressing / assembly / special purpose / tooling equipment suppliers as required and ensuring adherence to agreed planning. Create, Modify and interpate CAD models, Engineering Drawings & Specifications - in particular child parts.
  • Co-ordinating the preparation of PFMEA, control plan and process planning documentation via project team.
  • Providing quotation support for tooling, processes and checking fixtures to include concepts, layouts and cycle times as required.
  • Training of project team members where required
  • Providing accurate cost and timing feedback for products and changes during the enquiry and program phase.
  • Escalating risks / issues to program management in a timely manner.
  • Preparation of SORs for tooling, processes and checking fixtures to include concepts, layouts and cycle times as required.
  • Reporting project status to Project Manager in accordance with scheduled project and program reviews and reporting formats
  • Support nomination of tooling, processes and checking fixture suppliers
  • Following and maintaining project processes and documentation (E.g. Project Gateway using GPCS system).
  • Support the buy off of tooling and lead the buy off processes and checking fixtures.
  • Attending customer PMST meetings using prescribed action / timing log.
  • Lead and coordinate internal process run @ rate and process buy off.
  • Support project to 90 days post SOP - to final project handover / sign off.
  • Provide timing for assigned milestones and activities and ensure they are achieved.
  • Communication and Presentations, directly with Customers and internal stakeholders
