We are continuing our journey for system’s plans for greater collaboration to develop, enhance and improve clinical pathways resulting in better patient experience and outcomes.We acknowledge that we are living in very challenging times for the NHS both locally and nationally. Our Trust has much work to do to improve our performance and services and respond to the findings of our most recent CQC inspection report, and we now have an opportunity to appoint two new Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) to join our Board. All applications are welcome, specifically we are looking for one NED with financial expertise, who will chair our Finance & Performance Committee, and one NED with legal expertise. Other areas of Board-level expertise could be considered.The role of the NEDs is to support the Board of Directors in providing an independent view on the Trust’s strategy, to oversee implementation of national strategies and regulatory compliance, and to work collaboratively with our Council of Governors. In addition, as a NED you will be involved in the work of the Trust Committees.We are committed to increasing the diversity of our existing Board, and positively improve the balance of people from ethnic minority backgrounds. To support this, we encourage applications from people in minoritised communities whose background, experience and identity will broaden and enhance a balance of perspectives in navigating the challenges we face going forward.Essential criteria for the role includes:Recent experience of operating at Board level;Effective communication and engagement skills, including the ability to actively listen, promote discussion of views, welcome constructive challenge and be approachable;A strong commitment to developing effective collaborative relationships with partners and key stakeholders;For the NED with Finance expertise:o Having experience of managing a significant budget, supported by a professional accountancy/financial qualification;o A proven track record of driving financial improvement in or for a large organisation in the public, private or voluntary sector; ando Governance experience, including strategic planning, risk and performance management;For the NED with legal expertise:o Experience of operating in a legal services context as a Solicitor, Lawyer or Barrister;o Strong understanding of governance, legislation, and regulatory compliance;o Awareness of current legal issues.In order to complement the Board of Directors, skills in one or more of the following areas would also be desirable:Finance NED: understanding of the NHS finance regime.Legal NED: understanding of NHS legislation and regulatory compliance requirements.As a NED, you are required to provide independence of thought and constructive challenge as well as support executives and demonstrate commitment to the enduring values of NHS.We are interested not just in your professional qualifications; we are interested in the difference and insights your knowledge, expertise from your background, experience, training or career progression will bring to Board discussions and how they will contribute to the effective governance and diversity of the Trust Board.The remuneration is £15,000 per annum with a time commitment of around 4-5 days per month.For an informal discussion with the Interim Chair or Chief Executive then please contact Kelly Jupp, Trust Secretary on 0191 223 1702 or ******@nhs.net.For further information on the role please see the recruitment pack attached to this vacancy.Please note applications for the post should be submitted with a CV and personal statement as detailed in ‘How to apply’ on page 24 of the recruitment pack and should not be submitted using a Trac application form.This post is subject to the rehabilitation of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Services (formerly known as the Criminal Records Bureau) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
