When you join us, you’ll be part of something special.As a Trust we are happy to talk flexible working.Job overviewThe South London & Maudsley (SLaM) Clinical Informatics Service is being set up to provide informatics capability to support clinical decision making in direct care. The service will use innovative data enrichment and modelling techniques developed by researchers and clinicians in the Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) and make these data entities available to frontline staff. The Clinical Informatics Service has recently been awarded funding over 2 years deploy the proof of concept into a fully operational service within SLaM.An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic and self-motivated NLP Developer to work within the Clinical Informatics team, initially for a 2 year period. The post-holder will have experience of large-scale information systems, ideally in a healthcare environment, and familiarity with natural language processing.Main duties of the jobThe post-holder will:Work with the wider BRC informatics team to deploy and develop Natural Language Processing applications to quantify various clinical entities.Develop pipelines, processes and documentation which support the full NLP app lifecycle; from development, through testing to deployment.Support the day-to-day running of NLP operational services.Work with clinical stakeholders to develop robust definitions of clinical entities and to pinpoint relevant textual source data, and with NLP testers to validate and improve app performance.Use annotation tools, and rule-based (Jape) and machine learning classification approaches where appropriate to develop new apps.Contribute to documentation of our NLP catalogue, ensuring that apps are used appropriately, for relevant cohorts and with full understanding of their underlying assumptions and limitations.Work with our technical team to design and implement infrastructure that supports incremental build of source data, daily NLP runs and usage of app output within dashboards.Working for our organisation South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust has a rich history, well-established community links and an international reputation.
