About the Role

We are seeking an ambitious individual with excellent interpersonal skills, experience in academic medicine and a commitment to developing their research career at Warwick. This is an NIHR funded CL post in either Endocrinology & Diabetes Mellitus or Radiology. Funding for 1 post is available.You should have evidence of achievement

experience. This NIHR Clinical Lecturer post has been awarded to the University of Warwick as part of the NIHR IAT programme. This is an exciting opportunity to combine clinical training with a programme of postdoctoral research, providing 50% clinical and 50% academic time. The Postgraduate Dean has confirmed that this post has the required educational and staffing approval and will come with an Academic National Training Number [NTN(A)] as part of the West Midlands rotation in Endocrinology & Diabetes Mellitus or Radiology.The post is ideally suited to individuals wishing to build an academic career in Radiology or Endocrinology & Diabetes Mellitus. Further details of the academic training pathway can be found at www.nihr.ac.uk/ The ACL will have regular supervision meetings with their clinical academic supervisor. The ACL will spend 50% of their time in full-time academic activity each year, to enable them to complete an intense period of research or educational activity to support grant application. They will establish an independent research portfolio, by applying successfully for external grants, publishing in peer review journals and disseminating results at national and international conferences.They will be employed by the University of Warwick and hold Honorary Contracts with the University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW) or other NHS Trust relevant to their training needs.Shift (rotating pattern)In addition, they will work collaboratively with colleagues to build a strong research portfolio in WMS, UHCW and the wider University. They will be expected to be actively involved in the postgraduate teaching programme and contribute to the supervision of Academic Clinical Fellows and PhD students; providing academic mentoring and advice for colleagues working in the NHS.

About You

You will have evidence of academic achievement, with publications in your field, and will hold (or shortly hold) an MD or PhD in Research or equivalent. You will already hold an NTN, having undertaken some training at Specialty Registrar level. The post is therefore aimed at an individual of ST3 level or above.The post is ideally suited to individuals wishing to build an academic career, and in particular those who have already undertaken research and who now wish to continue undertaking research whilst pursuing further training. University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire Radiology has an established academic record with successful Phd/MD completion by four consultants. There is an established record of supervision of Academic Clinical Fellows and research fellows with completion of two PhDs.There is active collaboration with the departments of Engineering, Computer Science and Health Sciences at the University of Warwick as well as the University of Birmingham.There are research interests in oncology, thoracic, nuclear medicine, gynaecology and musculoskeletal imaging.Endocrinology & Diabetes MellitusThe clinical sessions associated with this position will be agreed with the Clinical Director at WISDEM.For further information about WISDEM at UHCW, visit: The Human Metabolism Research Unit (HMRU), based at UHCW, houses two world-class whole-body metabolic calorimeters and other equipment for accurate measures of body composition. Our research team includes research nurses, engineers and clinical academic staff. We have also established key collaborations. Data from HMRU-related studies have been published in high-ranking peer-reviewed journals and presented at national and international meetings, and awarded various prizes. HMRU has attracted national and international media attention, featured on all UK-based terrestrial TV-channels and other media outlets.Further information about HMRU: Other areas of strength at WMS include cellular and molecular biological studies of metabolic health, protein modification, vascular biology and beta-cell biology. We also have a vibrant trials and health sciences research portfolio relevant to E&D.
