Job DescriptionPortobello Legal Media (PLM) is a boutique publishing house specialising in the provision of news, information, and analysis for the international legal market. We are hiring an ambitious News Editor to work on our market-leading publication, International Employment Lawyer (IEL). The News Editor will play a key role in enhancing the daily news service offered by IEL. The successful candidate will be either a senior reporter looking to step into their first editor role or an established news editor looking for a new challenge. In addition to having a discerning eye for what is newsworthy, applicants should be self-starters able to source, and write their own well-researched and topical news for an audience of sophisticated legal professionals around the world.The role will be based in London with hybrid working.The ideal candidate will have: ·Three years’ experience in a business journalism environment, with knowledge of the legal services sector considered a plus ·The ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven and high-trust environment·Experience of managing and mentoring reporters working to different time zones·Confidence and experience interviewing senior market figures·Experience of SEO and social media best practices·Excellent written and spoken English·Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills·The willingness and ability to learn about complex subjects quicklyThe role: ·Managing a team of talented reporters, the News Editor will work closely with the publication’s Editor-in-Chief to ensure all published content continues to meet the highest standards of editorial accuracy and clarity.·Build and maintain a network of industry contacts to secure high-value news leads and enhance your understanding of the industry in order to write exclusive long-form news analysis articles.·Conduct regular meetings and interviews over the phone, email, and in person. ·Contribute to the preparation of industry-leading surveys, reports, and international events.
