NATIONAL BEREAVEMENT SERVICE ADVISOR

Immediate start available

£22,200 - £28,800 full time (hourly rate: £11.50-£15 per hour). Salary will be dependent on relevant previous experience and competence 

Mon-Fri: 9.00-18.00

Sat: 10.00 – 14.00 on a rota basis

The post will usually be office-based (Consett) but remote working may be possible at times

The role is subject to successful completion of a probationary period of up to 6 months, reviewed at 2 monthly intervals.

Responsible to the Director of the National Bereavement Service/Adroit Legal Services

The National Bereavement Service (NBS) is a not-for profit company providing a free telephone helpline, email enquiries and webchat to bereaved people. The core areas of expertise are the practical tasks required after a death (registration of death, bereavement benefits, arranging a funeral, probate, and mail suppression). Advice is also provided for people who want to make a Will and similar pre-death arrangements. People contacting NBS are offered immediate emotional support and triaged and signposted to other services appropriate to their needs.

A core principle of the service is that clients are encouraged and empowered to seek the solution to their needs that best suits them. When appropriate, referrals to legal professionals who are members of Adroit’s panel (see below) are offered and facilitated, but only if the client is genuinely interested in exploring this choice further.

Adroit Legal Services is a commercial company which manages a panel of trusted and vetted legal practitioners offering a wide range of specialist legal services to both members of the public and corporate clients as an employee or customer benefit. Panel members must adhere to stringent service level agreements and offer highly competitive fees and outstanding customer service.

The two organisations work closely together, and this role involves work across all aspects of both businesses.

The applicant will need to have an empathic demeanour and at the same time be able to explain legal and other processes in plain English to people who may be acutely distressed. Clients contact us after a variety of types of death and the applicant will always need to be able to remain professional in their manner, even when being given distressing or even potentially shocking information.

The applicant will also need to be able to move seamlessly from dealing with distressed individual clients to working with managers and staff of our corporate clients. S/he will need to be highly organised and able to manage multiple work streams.

This role provides a service to both corporate clients and members of the public directly together with providing administrative support to colleagues within the organisation.

If you have experience within the bereavement and/or legal sector, this would be an advantage.

However, this role is open to both experienced and non-experienced applicants. A full training scheme will be offered to those who don’t have relevant experience but do have the right attitude and emotional skills.

A full DBS check will be required.
