Why is this role important and how does it fit into the team, department and wider firm?
As an MI Business Partner, you will work closely with the legal and central teams to provide insight and guidance on how data and MI can add value to their business goals and objectives. You will build strong relationships with clients, lawyers, and support staff in a specific target market group (TMG), sector or central support team. Your goal is to understand their strategic priorities, and to provide advice and MI solutions that not only support their objectives but also help to get value from the data we collect, reduce risk and improve operational efficiency.
Using primarily Microsoft technologies, you will develop MI solutions such as reports, dashboards, and client portals. You will deliver responsive quick wins and also consider the long-term data strategy. Using standard processes and best practice, you will create high-quality solutions that meet real business needs. By having a deep understanding of one or more target market groups, you will ensure that the firm's MI solutions maximise value for our clients, lawyers, and support staff.
What does the role actually involve?
Act as a business partner:
Develop strong links with leadership teams to understand business goals and concerns and become their trusted advisor within the data team
Develop TMG data strategy to align with business priorities
Work with clients to understand their own data journey and how we can provide value through data and MI
Support operational effectiveness of data by providing MI and data quality reporting
Input into data improvement initiatives acting as a representative for your assigned TMG / central teams
Represent your TMG / central teams during technical decision making
Provide insights into your assigned TMG / central teams for wider IT department
Design, development and maintain the firm’s MI and data analytics solutions including:
Reporting
Analytics tools
Dashboards
Ad hoc analysis
Support delivery of the data strategy:
Work with the Data team to define, communicate and exemplify the firm’s data strategy
Work with data engineering / architecture colleagues to create a central data platform
Collaborate with other colleagues in the IT department to deliver projects and solutions which support the implementation of the data strategy
Improve data literacy in your TMG
Best practice:
Active involvement in daily scrums
Testing and peer reviews
Concise technical documentation
Training IT technical and support teams in relevant aspects of new solutions
Promoting, encouraging and supporting best practice in our MI portfolio
Maintain information security requirements on any MI and data analytics solutions
As part of the IT team, you would be expected to have the following skills and experience:
Excellent communication skills required for building successful relationships with stakeholders
The ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical colleagues
Proactive, with proven experience in independent problem solving, demonstrating initiative and resourcefulness
A natural enthusiasm for technology and the ability to excite and engage colleagues about MI and data analytics
Proven ability to deliver multiple projects on time, with strong organisational, time and task management skills in a high-pressure environment
Good knowledge of the principles and best practice in MI development, with experience of the successful delivery of at least one major MI solution
An enthusiasm for new technology, and continuous learning and improvement
Sound analytical skills with a commitment to quality, and attention to detail
A collaborator who actively works with others towards a shared goal, and assists the team and colleagues by asking questions and sharing knowledge
