Job Title: Methods Engineer.
Department: Continuous Improvement
Location: Burton Upon Trent
Hours: 37 hours per week (Mon-Thurs 8am-4:30pm, Fri 8am-1pm)
Salary: Depending on experience.

Overview:
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Methods Engineer to join our Continuous Improvement team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering, lean principles, and Six Sigma, with a preference for candidates with rail industry experience.

Job Purpose:
The Methods Engineer will optimize assembly and manufacturing processes by studying product and manufacturing methods, designing robust process flows, and creating work instructions. This role supports both new and existing programs to ensure cost-effective, defect-free manufacturing. Acting as the liaison with the Engineering team, the Methods Engineer plays a crucial role in continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and promote a positive safety culture.
Interface with the engineering team for the cost-effective introduction of new products.
Develop and maintain good manufacturing practices and safe work methods.
Lead improvement projects and present findings to management.
Read, interpret, and evaluate drawings, models, and designs for assembly and manufacture.
Investigate and resolve complex production problems to ensure proper production flow.
Design tools, fixtures, test rigs, and jigs.
Review new technologies to improve capacity and quality.
Maintain and update work instructions and documentation.
Measure, analyse, and validate standard times; recommend and implement improvements.
Participate in designing workplace and cell layouts to promote efficient manufacturing processes.
Support lean activities, QRQC process, and warranty investigations.
Ensure equipment meets specifications and functions within required tolerances.
Develop and maintain FMEAs and control plans.
Facilitate technical and operator training on new and current equipment.
Person Specification:

Background & Experience:

Experience in a lean environment, preferably within the rail industry.
Comfortable working in a shopfloor environment.
Experience in regulated industries (e.g., ISO, RISAS, IRIS, COMAH).
Qualifications:

HNC engineering qualification or equivalent.
Strong understanding of mathematics, lean principles, and Six Sigma.
CAD qualification is desirable.
Key Skills and Competencies:

Advanced MS Office skills, particularly Excel.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Attention to detail and strong presentation skills.
Good cost awareness and influencing skills.
Physical Demands:

Ability to work in a dynamic and demanding industrial environment.
