We are looking for a Level 3 Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join our team based at the Port of Liverpool Combined Heat & Power site. Here at Cargills, we deliver a range of energy solutions, but at Port of Liverpool Combined Heat & Power (CHP) we supply steam to our sites at Brocklebank and Seaforth production and supply electricity to Peel Ports Dock users and the electrical grid system.

About the role
Here you’ll contribute to the mid-term maintenance plan and undertake all maintenance activities in accordance with Cargills established systems. You will assist the Maintenance Co-ordinator to understand and predict maintenance issues so that all plans accommodate suitable engineering resolutions, ensuring all maintenance plans are managed via the maintenance management system (SAP).
Working alongside both internal and external stakeholders, you will complete maintenance activities through a balance of hands-on activities and managing appropriate resources, for all mechanical and process issues that impact/are likely to impact on production. You will have a pro-active working manner and, as such, will have the opportunity to innovate and appropriately challenge existing processes to improve efficiency.

Key responsibilities include:
• Support the identification and implementation of improvements to all areas that affect plant performance.
• Determine the scheduling of maintenance activities to minimise contract labour requirements.
• Deliver maintenance of plant and equipment also carrying out service inspections to meet and exceed business KPI’s.
• Deliver and support analysis of plant issues, providing expert technical advice to the Maintenance Coordinator to assist in the decision-making process of plant issues.
• Contract and contractor management, ensuring appropriate safety assessments have been completed and performance is optimised.
• Ability to create and deliver outage plans and projects at all levels of complexity and duration.
• Multitasking and prioritising workloads to meet operational needs by collaborating with suppliers and contracts to optimise plant availability.
• Assist with procurement of emergency spares and contract services.

Required Skills & Qualifications
• HNC/NVQ Level 4 or equivalent along with significant expertise in general engineering principles, with expertise in the specialist skill area Mechanical Engineering and Maintenance.
• High levels in fault finding and diagnostic ability.
• A willingness to develop the site by looking for best practise and ways to improve the plant operational and commercial performance.
• An IOSH (Managing Safely) or equivalent qualification as a minimum, demonstrating a clear knowledge of safety practices and management.
• Contract Management skills and experience to appropriately challenge contractors on the methods, quality, and standards of work.
• Competent in hazard identification, risk assessment and management of risks.
• Excellent understanding of the commercial and financial effects of plant operation.
• A working knowledge of computer-based maintenance management and information systems. i.e. SAP
• Ability to build professional relationships with our internal and external stakeholders.
• An understanding of operational practices and procedures and the ability to recognise and diagnose problems, by evaluating information and data to draw conclusions and make decisions.
• A flexible approach towards working hours.
• Full UK driving licence.

Desirable :
• Large Generation or Steam and Electricity Power Plant Experience.
• Forklift Truck or MEWP driving experience.
• Experience of Safety Work Permit Systems.
• Environmental awareness.
• Knowledge of PSSR / LOLER / Other Safety regulations
