Mechanical Engineer - Cambridgshire - £(phone number removed) - Scientific instrumentation

A client of nGeniums are seeking a dynamic and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join their team to help us develop products. The ideal candidate will have demonstrably strong experience designing commercially produced scientific instrumentation.

Responsibilities:


  • Conduct on-site assessments and inspections of systems and equipment
  • Collaborate with project managers and clients to understand project requirements and objectives
  • Design and develop mechanical solutions using CAD software, primarily SolidWorks
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise (electronic, software and mechanical systems) during installation, commissioning, and maintenance activities
  • Perform field tests and experiments to validate design performance and functionality
  • Prepare detailed reports, documentation, and drawings to communicate findings and recommendations effectively
  • Liaise with cross-functional teams, including engineering, procurement, and construction, to coordinate project activities and resolve technical issues
  • Develop field engineering processes and methodologies to optimise efficiency and quality of deliverables.

Must haves:


  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience in a field-based role, preferably with a mechanical bias
  • Proficiency in CAD software including SolidWorks, with experience of 2D Drawings and geometric tolerancing and dimensioning
  • Experience with design for manufacture/design for assembly
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Adaptability to work independently or as part of a team, with a proactive and results-driven attitude.

Nice to haves


  • Understanding of fundamental mechanical principles, thermodynamics, statics, dynamics, and material science
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically under pressure.
  • Knowledge of plastics and commercial approaches to medium/large scale production
  • Experience with project management tools and methodologies.
