Mechanical Technician

We are seeking a Mechanical Technician who is dedicated to maintaining a safe working environment and has a strong grounding in mechanical engineering. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the assembly, dismantling, inspection, repair, and testing of mechanical equipment, ensuring the smooth operation of our manufacturing processes.

Day to Day of the role:
  • Apply specialist craft skills for the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment.
  • Interpret construction drawings, designs, and system schematics to evaluate equipment performance and diagnose malfunctions.
  • Perform breakdown and planned maintenance tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Receive and execute instructions for project and maintenance work from supervisors and engineers.
  • Support a reliability-centred maintenance approach for major process assets.
  • Manage product quality issues during maintenance and improvement works.
  • Document works completed on the site CMMS systems.
  • Respond to site emergencies to restore production in a timely manner.
  • Assist in process control and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to the training and development of team members and apprentices.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Time-served apprenticeship in mechanical/multiskilled maintenance.
  • NVQ level 3 or City and Guilds in mechanical maintenance.
  • Proficiency in general fitting, welding, machining, construction, installation, and maintenance techniques.
  • Knowledge of precision measurement equipment and instrumentation.
  • Understanding of hydraulic systems and the ability to fault find on complex machinery.
  • Computer literacy, ideally conversant in the use of CMMS and basic office software.
  • Strong understanding of Health and Safety in the workplace.
Desirable:
  • RCM formal training and experience.
  • Leadership skills and heavy engineering experience.
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic formal training and experience.
  • Experience within a manufacturing company, particularly in metal properties and production.
