Gas Connection Engineer (Contract) Responsibilities
Reporting to the Engineering Lead for the project, the Gas Connection Engineer shall be part of a team responsible for delivering the project engineering for a fleet of utility scale hydrogen ready gas peaking and energy storage projects, initially focused on the 750MW Thurrock hybrid battery and thermal project to the east of London. This shall include:
Design Co-ordination of gas connection engineering (inclusive of pressure reduction station) packages
Procurement support for gas connection package, including production of tender packs, evaluation of tenders and procurement of pipe, fittings, meters etc for the gas connection and pressure reduction station
Document Control for mechanical engineering packages: Communicating Design Information between Contractors and to Site Team for one or more projects
Undertaking an Owners Engineer role from a gas engineering point of view, providing review of design work undertaken by contractors for both their own and other projects constructed by the team
Providing high level specification of gas connection design associated with a hydrogen ready gas peaking project
Representing the company in meetings with designers, suppliers and on site teams
Useful Additional Skills
In addition to the main duties, it would be beneficial if the Gas Connection Engineer had some or all of the following skills:
Experience of working with National Gas on Gas Transmission Connections or equivalent experience with gas distribution network operators such as Cadent or NGN.
Knowledge of gas engine project design
Knowledge of gas pipeline and pressure reduction station construction
Working knowledge of process engineering (ability to understand and interrogate PFDs and P&IDs)
AutoCAD 2D 3D CAD Design
Key Personal Characteristics
Attention to detail
Written and verbal communication
Building relationships with both office based and site based teams
Experience
8+ years within gas industry environment (production, distribution, transmission) supporting construction projects
Familiarity with IGEM standards
Experience of participating in FPSA (HAZID, HAZOP, G/37 review etc)
Location
Hybrid working – initially 3-4 days a week in London, 1 day a week on site and 1 day a week home office moving to 3 days on site during the construction phase of the project.
Qualifications
MEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
