Materials Testing Technician (Automotive)

We are recruiting a Materials Testing Technician for one of our automotive clients based in Cranfield.
You will be working for a globally recognised automotive company. This is a long-term contract role. The contract is on an ongoing basis a may run for several years.
Key Responsibilities of the Materials Testing Technician:
• Strong professional support for Materials engineering design & test, also cross function support for other commodities within the business.
• Support/lead Test data analysis, identify concern area and propose countermeasures.
• Implementation of new methods and tools required to deliver test function.
• Assist with facility management inclusive of maintenance, facility calibration, risk assessment and training.
• Raise / issue test reports and liaise with test / design engineers to close concern items.
• Produce technical operating procedures relating to NEM tests / facility operation.
• Demonstrable experience in multi material testing.
• Must be capable of operating and understand equipment, associated with relevant testing area.
• Experience of Materials assembly/testing techniques and procedures
• Good inter-personal skills for coordinating activities with internal / external customers / sup-pliers
• Quality conscious with keen attention to detail
• Flexible to support periods of off-site working.
Qualifications & Experience for the Materials Testing Technician:
• Recognised Qualification in Materials / Laboratory based field.
• HNC or above preferable
Desirable knowledge / experience in:
• Optical microscope operation
• SEM operation
• Mechanical testing (Hardness, impact, tensile, flexural etc.)
• Understanding of a wide range of materials (Steel, Aluminium, Polymer, fabric, leather, fluids and other)
• Basic understanding of vehicle assembly (Parts) and environment
• Accelerated testing (UV, Xenon, Corrosion, thermal)
• Basic measurement techniques
• Chemical handling (Solvents, Acids & Alkali’s)
Hours & Pay for the Materials Testing Technician:
• Monday to Friday
• 39 hours per week
• £18.01 p/h
