The Opportunity:



For this Management Accountant position, you will primarily be a “highly visible” and credible finance professional and be a key member of the College’s Central Team. You will manage a Finance Service for the and report directly to the Head of Finance.



Some of the key responsibilities for this successful person would be but not limited to:




  • Proactively work with the Head of Finance and Chief Operating Officer to transform the finance service, using a commercial mind-set to ensure strategic aims are achieved providing professional advice and information.

  • Be proactively involved in the College Performance Management process, attending meetings with Senior Management when requested to provide management information to support strategic decision-making.

  • Support the Head of Finance and the Chief Operating Officer with specific project work throughout the College.

  • Work in collaboration with the College managers to advise and recommend ways to more efficiently and effectively manage local budgets. 

  • Work with the Head of Finance and Senior Managers to support the College drive changes and efficiencies through more proactive financial management.

  • Line management of college finance staff and work with colleagues to ensure the finance processes are undertaken timely and accurately to manage the day-to-day finance operations of College.

  • Lead on the preparation of annual budgets by working with budget holders to prepare budgets.

  • Complete tasks within the agreed timetables to support timely delivery of the statutory Annual Report and Financial Statements, Audit Deliverables and the Financial Forecasting for the ESFA.   Support the Technical Finance Lead e.g., HMRC returns, grant claims, pension returns.

  • Preparation of accurate monthly management accounts report including Income and Expenditure Account, Balance Sheet and Cash flow and provide narrative to ensure key stakeholders understand the College financial position monthly.

  • Ensure financial forecasts incorporated into the Management Accounts to ensure forecasts are realistic, accurate and correctly profiled to support cash flow monitoring.

  • Liaise with budget holders to produce revenue/capital forecasts to ensure they have the financial information they need to manage their budget.  Be proactive addressing any variances from budget to minimise financial risk.

  • Work with the Head of Finance and Chief Operating Officer to further develop and improve College financial systems and processes.

  • Liaise with internal and external auditors as required and assist the Head of Finance in the preparation of papers for the Finance and Audit Committees.

  • Attend College Boards and relevant finance staffing sub committees.

  • Prepare reports and provide analysis of financial information.



The Candidate:



The successful Management Accountant will be/have:




  • Fully qualified member of a CCAB Accountancy body

  • Experience from the Public sector is important.

  • Experienced in preparing statutory accounts, funding body returns and a wide variety of financial reports

  • Proven and successful leadership experience at a senior level

  • Great if you have previous experience in an Academy Trust setting, but this is not essential

  • A drive to succeed and a commitment to their vision and mission to meet the needs and aspirations of all their students, enabling them to meet the challenges of the future, is important
