About the Position
The Management Accountant plays a crucial role in managing financial operations and providing support to the finance team and wider business stakeholders. In addition, participating in the day to day finance and accounting requirements of the business which will involve working on departmental priorities to meet the demands of the business. The role may require participation in cross functional projects to ensure efficiency of business activities and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
On a day to day basis you will:
Complete daily and monthly bank reconciliations, and day to day management of the invoice financing facility.
Prepare, review, and analyse monthly, quarterly, interim, and annual financial statements, budgets, and forecasts to provide accurate and timely financial insights to senior management.
Ensure accurate and timely completion of month-end and year-end closing activities, including intercompany reconciliations, and financial reporting.
Monitor and maintain inventory and capital expenditure, including fixed and right of use asset records, provisions, write offs, and depreciation schedules.
Oversee and manage the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely processing of employee compensation, benefits, and deductions. Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and accurate record-keeping.
Monthly and quarterly processing of VAT returns, as well as assisting with the production of annual tax returns, tax calculations and R&D tax credits, filings, and liaising with tax authorities.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and senior leadership team to resolve accounting discrepancies and address financial inquiries, providing insights to support decision-making and strategic planning.
Mentor and provide guidance to junior team members, ensuring their professional growth and development.
Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and support.
Support and cover junior members when required to ensure accurate and timely processing of accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, including invoicing, payments, and collections.
Stay updated on accounting principles, regulations, and industry best practices, and ensure compliance with relevant standards.
Implement and maintain effective internal controls, proactively identifying opportunities for efficiencies and process improvements, identifying areas of risk, and implementing changes to enhance financial operations.
Requirements
Essential
Relevant experience at this level with professional certifications (Part or Full Qualified ACCA, CIMA, ACA, CPA).
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in numerical data entry and financial calculations.
Strong organisation skills with the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks / deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, to effectively collaborate and convey complex financial information with stakeholders at all levels.
Integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial information.
Proactive problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
Strong knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices, including standard costing methodology
Proficient user of Microsoft packages, especially Excel (X lookups, pivot tables, Match IFS etc…)
Desirable
Proven experience in mentoring and guiding junior team members.
Previous experience of accounting software Syspro and business intelligence tool PowerBI.
What we offer
This role offers a competitive salary of £35,000 to £38,000 and a range of benefits including a 9-day working fortnight (every second Friday off), hybrid working (on site 3 days per week), pension, bonus scheme, life assurance, income protection, health cash plan, perkbox, and free parking.
