Position Purpose
The Machine Shop Manager will provide efficient planning, coordination, and control of the Machine Shop to ensure that practises and processes are run in an effective manner whilst ensuring that all orders and targets are met in the allocated time span. In addition to this, the Machine Shop Manager will lead and direct the team in the Machine Shop. The Machine Shop Manager will work with production management to ensure that the Machine Shop runs in an efficient manner and that all work is completed in aligned to production schedules and to a high quality. They will also identify ways to continuously improve manufacturing processes and implement new methods that will allow the production process to run smoothly.
Responsibilities
Review production orders and assess materials, processing and finishing requirements
Allocate work amongst the team and ensure staff have the required materials and equipment to produce the required parts
Ensure the status of orders are kept in date and are on track to meet production deadlines
Communicate engineering change notices, special manufacturing requests and order change notices
Inspection of completed parts in relation to the relevant drawings
Purchase materials, tools, equipment, and consumables when required
Strive to reduce expenses and increase productivity across all product lines
Keep track and place purchase requests for materials to meet weekly production plans
Liaise with key internal departments to ensure customer requirements are met
Oversee all employee welfare in the machine Shop department and provide motivation, support, and welfare
Ensure all employees follow industry-standard health and safety guidelines
Supervising the work of junior staff and organising training and staff development opportunities
Requirements
A degree or higher national diploma in relevant industry
Technical & Extensive knowledge of CNC machinery and the practices and processes to operate these in an effective manner
5+ years in manufacturing operations & 2+ years in a supervisory capacity
Experience in handling responsibility and pressure of meeting deadlines
Leadership and interpersonal skills
Communication and time management skills
Problem-solving
Interest in developing knowledge of the role and working with people
