Machine Operative

Our client is a well-established and successful manufacturer.  They are looking for a Machine Operative / Manual Machinist / Bench Fitter to join their team.

•    You have previous experience of using a variety of manual machines (e.g. manual lathe, manual miller, vertical borer, and surface grinders).

Salary:  £35,277 (£31,163 + £4,114 Shift Allowance)

Shift Pattern: Monday – Thursday, 7:00am – 5:00pm)

Responsibilities: 

•    Carry out day to day bench fitting activities using a variety of manual machines (including manual lathe, manual miller, vertical borer, and surface grinders).

•    Undertake the manufacture and reconditioning of engineering parts, cleaning and polishing.

•    Carrying out proactive work including planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and refurbishment of worn parts on rotary valves and the manufacture of extrusion die and bells.

•    Able to interpret and read engineering drawings.

•    Involvement in multi-site projects.

•    Maintain central workshop standard and practices.

•    Support the engineering department in reactive maintenance machining support.

•    Mentor Apprentices within the engineering department.                                                                        

Required Knowledge & Experience:

•    Experienced Bench Fitter or Machinist with experience undertaking mechanical machining of parts and cleaning and polishing of equipment.

•    Ability to operate central workshop equipment including manual lathe, manual miller, vertical borer, and surface grinders.

•    (Essential) Minimum ONC qualified (Mechanical), or have a recognised Level 3 Apprenticeship in Manual Machining operations

•    (Desirable) HNC qualified (Mechanical), or Level 4 in a Mechanical Engineering discipline

•    Ability to read technical drawings.

•    Self-motivated with the ability to work on own initiative and the confidence to work unsupervised.
