We are looking for Locum Consultant General Paediatrician to join our general paediatric service based in Morriston Hospital, Swansea, to cover maternity leave gap for 12 months.
Acute General Paediatrics Duties
The post is based at Morriston Hospital. Clinical responsibilities will include covering the acute general paediatric service provided within a successful consultant-based 'Consultant of the week' model and an out-of-hours on-call rota. With a 7:3 ratio and time within the job plan to reflect both predictable and unpredictable clinical commitments has been calculated based on the diarised activities of colleagues. In addition, you will specifically participate in the provision of General Paediatric outpatient activity at either Morriston, Singleton or NPTH.
You will join a team of sixteen consultants to work together to develop and improve general paediatric services in Swansea Bay University Health Board. You will be expected to participate in the Consultant on-call rota and current service week arrangements at Morriston Hospital. There is no cross cover with Neonatology. A formal job plan will be undertaken at the start of the post. It is anticipated that you will undertake general paediatric outpatient clinics
This is a 8-session post with three sessions for supporting professional activities.
Main duties of the job
Your role as part of a multi-disciplinary team will include responsibility for the provision of clinical care for children and young people focusing on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.
Your management responsibilities will include the safe, efficient and effective functioning of the services in which you work in line with the values, operational policies and integrated medium term plan (IMTP) of the Health Board.
You will be required to adhere to the principles of good medical practice as laid down by the General Medical Council.
You will be required to participate in the Health Board risk management process, clinical governance and any other healthcare governance activities within the department, the directorate and the Health Board. Adherence to the Caldicott Principles of information governance is mandatory.
You will be required to maintain a licence to practice through revalidation.
You will be expected to make a significant contribution to the service and directorate planning process through active participation in the clinical directorate structure.
You will participate in the Consultant on call rota at MorristonHospital , with prospective cover.
You will adhere to all policies which cover radiation exposures as currently outlined in IRMER regulations.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential
Primary medical qualification - MBBS or equivalent
MRCPCH
Full GMC registration
Knowledge of Child Safeguarding procedures and UK practices - level 3 or equivalent
Desirable
Higher degree - MSc, MPhil related discipline
Experience
Essential
3 years (minimum) experience of paediatrics
Experience at registrar level or equivalent in paediatrics.
Experience of child safeguarding procedures.
Experience of teaching and presenting
Understanding of principles of clinical governance
Experience of audit activities and shows commitment to continuous improvement
Desirable
Clinical experience in related paediatric specialties
Published research in peer reviewed journals
