The Trust is seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant Gastroenterologist to continue the development of the Gastroenterology and Endoscopy services at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a 12 month fixed term post.
Applications from individuals with a specialist interest in any area of Gastroenterology would be welcomed, although the Trust currently has a specific need for a Consultant with a specialist interest in liver disease, luminal gastroenterology or nutrition.
The successful applicant will join a progressive, successful, award winning Foundation Trust. They will be working in a Trust which is considered to be in the top 120 employers in the NHS and is performing in the top 10% of Acute Trusts, after being rated as GOOD by the CQC. The Trust is close to the urban centres of Liverpool and Manchester but benefits from a semirural location.
Applicants must have full registration with the GMC including a License to Practice.
The posts are offered on a full-time basis however, the Trust would welcome discussion with individuals looking for a more flexible working pattern to support a different work life balance.
Main duties of the job
The Trust currently provides the Cheshire-wide Bowel Screening Programme and was accepted for the 'age expansion' programme in 2013 and the Bowel Scope Phase One in May 2014. Along with this flag ship service, the Trust also provides a full range of gastroenterology services including upper and lower endoscopy, ERCP, specialist inflammatory bowel disease clinics, a hepatology service and an anaemia clinic. These services are provided from one Gastroenterology ward. As an expanding service we can accommodate a wide range of subspecialty interests.
The Consultants will be expected to undertake outpatient clinics, endoscopy and review inpatients on the ward. There will also be a commitment to the 'consultant of the week' model where there is a designated consultant for the management and prioritisation of GI bleeds in hours and the newly appointed Consultant will be expected to participate on the Out of Hours Upper GI bleed rota.
Aspects of the role will be undertaken in our modern operating theatres and newly refurbished day treatment centre and endoscopy suite, with upgraded digital imaging facilities.
About us
Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) provides good quality, safe and effective healthcare to the people of Cheshire and beyond. The Trust, which manages Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford, was established as an NHS Trust in April 1991 and became a Foundation Trust in April 2008.
We employ almost 5,000 members of staff, provide around 540 hospital beds, with a range of services including accident and emergency, maternity, outpatients, therapies, and children's health.
The Trust is also part of Central Cheshire Integrated Care Partnership (CCICP), a unique local health partnership that provides a range of community services for people across South Cheshire and Vale Royal.
During the Coronavirus pandemic, the Trust was recognised nationally for its 'Be Safe Be EquiPPEd' campaign, which aimed to make the Trust as safe as possible for staff and patients, through supporting the correct use of PPE.
The results in the 2020 national NHS Staff Survey showed improvements in all elements of the safety culture theme, with 92% of respondents feeling their role made a difference to our patients. We were also recognised nationally for our workforce health and wellbeing initiatives.
At Mid Cheshire, we value our staff and appreciate that in order to give our patients the best quality, compassionate care, we also need to look after our colleagues.
