We are currently recruiting for aLivestock Buyerto join our Procurement team atMcIntosh Donald.This is a home based role which involves travelling around Scotland in order to support our site, McIntosh Donald.Role PurposePurchasing of livestock by achieving best price for procurement of suitably graded cattle to meet weekly production targets.Role RequirementsDevelop and maintain effective working relationships with suppliers (including farmers, auctioneers and other third parties), demonstrating their commitment to consistent ethical standards, good practice and Kepak values.Procure and maintain adequate supply of suitably graded livestock (cattle and sheep).Inspect livestock on location to ensure good health and animal welfare obligations are met.Provide advice for the proper care of livestock, leading to more successful production.Estimate animal value and negotiate pricing with supplier and in line with agreed business rates.Arrange post-purchase transportation of animals to site.Maintain extensive knowledge on reliable suppliers in region.Keep current on animal supply and overall market conditions and trends.Maintain records of all transactions.Understand and maintain knowledge on appropriate pricing levels.Continuously seek out opportunities for livestock acquisition.Liaise with industry bodies, including FSS, vets, suppliers and hauliers to support effective operations and production.Develop and provide insight on competitors’ actions, such as buying trends, and inform Procurement Team and/or Site Manager.Any other duties as required by management and within the competency of the post holder.RequirementsAttributes, Skills and Experience RequirementsCommitment to Company Values; Passion for food, Ambition, Responsibility and TeamworkPassion for Foodat forefront of day-to-day performanceAmbitionto develop self to achieve personal and business goalsResponsibilityfor positive contribution to businessTeamworkacross all levels, departments and teams, willing to go the extra mileDegree in livestock related subject or equivalent desirable but not essentialSome practical experience in livestock management – cattleIT literate, experience of databases and CRM systemsGood communication skills and good team player – ability to liaise effectively with farmers and team membersClean driving licence and ability to undertake travel within UK and to ROI as requiredAbility to be assertive, proactive and to manage own workloadCommitment to good practiceFluent English, Communicate well in written and oral form with multi-nationals on all levelsAbility to multitask and work under own initiative to deliver to deadlinesRelationship builder with influencing skillsStrong team player31 days annual leave per year (after probation)25% Discount in our Butcher ShopOpportunity to earn a performance BonusSubsidised canteen serving multiple hot food options for breakfast and lunchKeep up to date with the latest news, products and special offers.
