Job description: The UCL Arts and Sciences (UASc) department at University College London (UCL) is the home for the Bachelor of Arts and Sciences (BASc) which is the UK’s leading interdisciplinary degree, covering arts, social sciences and sciences degree. BASc combines the breadth of interdisciplinary study across the arts and sciences with the opportunity to specialise in one or two key subject areas and is structured around a compulsory Core and 4 Pathways. The department also offers a MASc in Creative Health, a BA in Creative Arts and Humanities and has a doctoral programme in Interdisciplinary Societies, Arts and Sciences.
We are seeking a Lecturer (Teaching) in Computer Science to join the UCL Arts and Sciences department. The postholder will be module convenor for and . The postholder may also be asked to contribute to, or convene, and/or . In addition, the postholder will act as Personal Tutor to c.20 students majoring in the Sciences and Engineering pathway of the BASc Arts and Sciences programmes. This will include guiding students t o curate an individualised coherent degree. The postholder will be encouraged to engage in scholarship in their academic area and around the theory and practice of teaching and the conduct of teaching related initiatives. There will be a maximum of 15% of time in this post for scholarship and/or research. The post is based at the Bloomsbury campus, but travel may be required to the UCL East campus in Stratford for departmental activities or for contributing to teaching on the BA Creative Arts and Humanities or MASc Creative Health programmes. This post is 0.50 FTE (18.25 hours per week) and available from 1 August 2024 or as soon as possible after that date. This is an open-ended, permanent post. This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require right to work in the UK to carry out this role.
The postholder will be educated to Doctoral level in any interdisciplinary area relevant to computer science and/or informatics. The postholder will have previous experience of teaching undergraduate students in a subject relevant to computer science, which includes both small group and lecture teaching and assessing students. Experience of using online learning environments and excellent communication skills are essential. Previous experience of developing computer science curriculum, supervising undergraduate dissertations and managing Postgraduate Teaching Assistants (PGTAs) is desirable.
