For example, a member of our department was first appointed as a Lecturer in 2019. Within four years she was promoted to Associate Professor. She has developed new teaching at undergraduate level and won a prestigious Fellowship to open up new research avenues –– while also taking a period of maternity leave. It’s not essential that you have teaching experience, but you must have the confidence and presence to inspire students –through both group lecturing and one-to-one mentoring.
